HIPAA question...

Nurses HIPAA

Published

Just a quick query, if y'all don't mind.

Occasionally, if something cute or otherwise occurs during my day, I'll make mention of it on Facebook. No names, if it involves a patient. Usually gender neutral. And always something so generic as to have occurred more than once a day.

Case in point, a little old patient who praised my blood drawing skills and said the clinic should hire me! Like she had not been my patient for 2 years!

Worded as: "Had one tell me today that I should be hired to draw blood!

Benign, nonsense stuff like this...can it be construed as a HIPAA issue? Just wanna know. Thanks.

I agree with Esme on this...don't post anything about work. It's just safer that way. Our CNO wanted to make a rule that said we couldn't post anything about work on Facebook, it never passed. My boss monitors Facebook and if you've posted something about a rough shift or anything that could be considered negative, she will ask you to "please don't post negative comments".

Never post anything about work on social media. Especially if you have your place of employment listed. Could come back and bite you in the butt.
