Hesi A2 Lehman College

Nursing Students HESI

Published

Hey guys, I'm applying for CUNY Lehman's nursing program, Fall 2016, and I am really nervous. I have a 3.73 gpa, however I have recently have taken the HESI A2. I got an overall grade of 86, but I got a 68 on the anatomy section. My question is if Lehman looks at the overall grade or the grades of each section. Some people tell me it is the overall grade and others tell me it is the section. Please if anyone knows for sure it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!

Anyone knows if after you submit your application they start to review them or do they wait until the march 15th deadline to gather all applications? just wondering if it matters when you send in your application

Hello everyone,

Anyone who likes to retake the test, do you know where and how?

I could do not find any school has exact the same sessions that Lehman nursing requires,(reading, math, A&P, CT)

Some schools asks more, some less.

Help please! Thanks!!

I did not pass either :(

I believe they will review it in May, as they need to consider your/all students' grade, including this spring.

Hey happynurse2016,

So sorry to hear that :-( How did you prepare for the exam? I know they have done retakes in the past but I haven't seen any information about it for this year. You should contact the nursing dept. directly @ 718-960-8214.

Best of luck!!

Hey happynurse2016,

As long as a school has the 4 sections you need, take their exam. You only get graded on the sections you start on the HESI. Meaning even though they might have addition sections it doesn't matter. I signed up to retake the exam using HBU's department code (it's a school in Texas I believe). The only difficulty is finding a time slot for the exam before March 15th. I was told my a staff member in Lehman's nursing department that you need to retake the HESI exam before March 15th so it can be included with your application.

Hi Evesdrop, Thanks for the information! there is a notice on the bulletin board in nursing department. "The HESI2 score need to be submitted before April 1. "

Also I think your score is very very good, should not have any problem, based on the posts from the last year.

Good luck to everyone!

That's good to know! They should really update the information on the nursing department website. It doesn't mention anything about being able to take it with a different school or meeting the deadline of April 1st, but I guess that's what allnurses is for :-)

[h=1][/h][h=1] Hello embrooklyn,

I used Admission Assessment Exam Review, 3rd Edition, as a guide line for A&P.

But for CT, I do not have much of clue what to follow.

You did great on your test! Any suggestion please?

Thanks!

Hey!

I didn't find any studying materials for the critical thinking section. I just analyzed each case and thought to myself - "what would a nurse/doctor do"?

What we might think is the right thing to do, it's actually not. It sucks because there is no right answer; one is just better than the other.

You got this!!!!

Hey, so I am currently in Lehman's nursing program, hopefully I can offer some insight....

I had a 3.92 science GPA and took the HESI and got a 84% overall but...a 72% on A&P section, which meant.... I was no longer eligible to get in.

However, I retook it a month later and got a 76% (yes, passed by 1 point) on A&P, 88% on Reading, 100% on Math and did not have to take the critical thinking again but the last time I took it I got a 790. Overall average 88%.

So to answer your questions,

The only reason the look at each section is to know you got at least 75% on each. As you can see, after the 75% of each, you're pretty set! If you don't get a 75% on each will they even look at your application? No. So even if you're average is high, it will not matter. So try and retake it. I know it's strenuous, I had to study while on Spring Break in California, but trust me you can do it!

They said the cutoff was for critical thinking was 800 last year, I got in with a 790. So it can go either way. I did not study for the critical thinking...because there's really no way too. But some advice when choosing answers....

Remember the order ABC, Airway first, Breathing second and Circulation third! Someone who is having airway issues (like difficulty breathing) is PRIORITY over someone with bleeding issues. And another thing, if they're asking about priority, choose the patient who is the least stable. Meaning, if you left them alone and attended to the other patients who would die faster. Hope this helps.

Hi KJ625,

Thank you so much for taking time out to write to us. I was worried about the HESI but after reading your story, I'm excited and will stop thinking about it until June lol. How is the program so far? Are you in the accelerated or generic program?
