HESI A2 in 12 Days!!!

I haven't taken it yet, but I'm going to in January.

I got the HESI Study book, 3rd edition by Elsevier, but I've heard to use other study tools as well.

How difficult it is depends on what sections your program requires you to take. Different programs require different sections and minimum scores.

It's going to be hard for you to study sufficiently being that you take the test in 12 days.

Put in 2 hours each day and you will be fine! Get the book immediately. If you have to take vocab - memorize all the vocab words (flashcards).

Thank you both! yes i ordered the book yesterday and will receive it today! My school requires a 70 minimum, but i definitely want to get something in the 90's! I will have to take all 5 sections, Grammar, Reading, Vocabulary/General Knowledge, Math, Anatomy and Physiology.

I got a 91! (I just took mine this morning!) I should have had much higher, but the anatomy kicked my butt! :banghead: (which is sad, because I took university level anatomy and physio just a year ago!) I don't know if I just had a particularly hard set of questions or it was because it was the last section I took, but my brain must have been fried by that point.

Elsevier is WONDERFUL! (for everything except anatomy...)

This is how I scored and I'll help you the best I can

Reading Comp: 98%

Don't freak out about this. If you did well at all on standardized testing in high school (SAT, ACT) you will be just fine. A lot of "what is the meaning of the word ___ in this sentence." Or "what is the author trying to tell us?" Seriously, if you read the passage at all you can pick the right answer on 90% of them.

Grammar: 100%

Again, if you can speak English properly, GREAT. Otherwise study that Elsevier book! I glanced over it before just to make sure but if you need help for this section Elsevier is a great resource (most of the questions could have been answered from that study guide.) Pay attention to subject verb agreement, punctuation (where to use apostrophes and commas) and parts of speech (even though most of it was very simple.) They seemed to like "He and I went to the store" vs. "Him and me went to the store" type questions (the proper use of pronouns).

Vocab and General Knowledge: 92%

I actually felt like I should have scored higher than I did... It wasn't hard, again, if you study the Elsevier. General knowledge was REALLY general.

Bio: 96%

Whoop whoop! I was about to cry when I got that score. I took bio for non majors freshman year of college online, and it was a total joke. I really needed to refresh my bio and the Elsevier book helped so much. DEFINITELY know your cellular respiration (glycolysis, krebs cycle, electron transport chain) and cellular reproduction (mitosis, meiosis, and where they occur). Protein synthesis is also important (and the locations of the different steps.) Basically, just learn what's in Elsevier!. Don't let this phase you. If you study that book you will do GREAT.

Chem: 88%

Okay I could have done a little better on this one too. Knowledge is very basic as well. Know your conversions (g/mol, Celsius to Farenheit) and proton, neutron, and electron relationships (atomic number, atomic mass.) KNOW WHAT ISOTOPES ARE! I had at least 3 questions on that.

Anatomy: 64%

I seriously have no idea what happened, but the Elsevier book was not enough on this section. Maybe I should have studied my old notes, but I'm not sure what would be the most helpful. I bought the CliffNotes guide but never got around to studying it. I trusted my previous knowledge and I guess I shouldn't have... It was a lot of random facts, and unforunately the answer choices were not

A) girl

B) boy

C) dog

D) neurohypophysis

(in other words, you really had to know the difference between the answer choices.)

KNOW YOUR HORMONES, GLANDS, AND THEIR LOCATIONS. (Know where tropic hormones come from and which are secreted from the anterior pituitary specifically) Studying that is probably the only reason I didn't do even worse on this section. There were several questions about that.

So yes! Study Elsevier and then hope and pray on anatomy! :saint: Haha. That's that novel of a response in a nutshell :up:

I took the HESI A2 back in November 2013. I had 2 other classes and I worked 2 jobs when I took the test. I had a lot going on and I was not focused like I should have been. I ordered a couple of books offline (Amazon) to study from and they are worth the money. I did not pass the Math portion the first go round. Fortunately I was able to retake it in January. While over winter break from school I studied my buns off. I'm really not good at math so going into the test I knew that was my weak point. I received a 96% on the math when doing my retake.

The onscreen calculator sucked for me but other than that the vocab and everything else was similar to the HESI A2 study guide I got from AMAZON. I did not have any A&P on my exam. Just Math, Grammar, Vocab and Reading.
