Nurses Stress 101

Published

Fitness Programs (sorry about the typo)

Hi!

I was talking with a friend who is a group trainer. She is planning

to approach 2 hospitals about starting fitness classes for

nurses right at the hospital.

I'm interested to know from you if having fitness classes

available at your workplace would be convenient for you.

Would you prefer classes before or after work?

What type of programs would you be interested in?

If your hospital offers this, do you utilize it?

Is it successful??:pumpiron:

Specializes in ER, ICU, Cardiac, Med-Surg.

As a new nurse, I've been wondering how I will fit in exercise. I will probably join a gym and work out on my nonworking days. If there were classes offered at my hospital I would consider going. A class like yoga would really appeal to me at the end of a working day!

I think that is a great idea! I would love it. I probably would like to use it on my days off though, after work I am usually a bit toasted, but I would be interested to see if working out after work would actually be better for me than a hot bath and bed. It may be a better stress reliever and I could walk out of the hospital a bit more refreshed.

I'm not a nurse yet, but I'm in public safety as a communications officer. For me, there are two times I like to do my workouts. Sometimes I like to workout before I go to work, that way I'll have it knocked out and won't have to worry about it when I get off. Sometimes there are days when I work out after work because I didn't get a chance to before work. THEN there are those days when I worked out before and then decided to go back after work and hit it again just because it was a stressful day. I know I'm not the only person who does this, alot of guys with our department do it this way as well.

Thanks so much for the replies!

Any other fitness classes you would like to see offered at the

workplace?

Specializes in None yet......

As a former personal trainer, and new nursing student - I'd like the idea of spinning (cycling) classes to be offered in hospitals......it's low impact and great for the legs and cardio, not to mention a good stress reliver!

Specializes in Med-Surg, Trauma, Ortho, Neuro, Cardiac.

Good luck with that. Anytime our organization has done anything like that it's fizzled out due to lack of committment.

That's the challenge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hopefully will keep their attention (and attendance) with Zumba!
