UH Manoa conflicting course schedules? Fall 09 BSN

Good luck to you...anyways, I am not sure about the conflicting schedule, but try taking Pharm at LCC with Tanji it is a really good class, the online version is what I am taking now, and it is cheaper @ LCC, and Dr Tanji explains things well with powerpoints. The entire course is online with weekly quizzes at home as well as 4 exams.

I don't mind taking the course online, but I'd rather do everything through the University. I receive scolarships and I'm not sure how that would affect it. I just found it unbelievable that they would schedule two required courses (that should be taken in the same semester) at the same time. ALL the 330L courses overlap with PHRM. So everyone else who didn't take PHRM (because they were told they would be taking it in the Fall semester) is basically screwed. I was hoping I wasn't the only one who noticed. No matter, I'll call tomorrow and update as soon as I find out more information. :) And hopefully it's good news. :) :)

I understand that you want to take all your courses from UH-Manoa. If your scholarships require you to be a full-time student at UH-Manoa, consider taking an elective course that won't overlap with the nursing courses.

If you choose to do that, then an option would be to take PHARM203 from a community college, whether it's during the summer or fall 2009. However, you must take into consideration that all summer courses are accelerating.

My point was that I shouldn't have to. The schedule of classes should have taken the curriculum into account. Clearly, if the curriculum states that PHRM and 330L should be taken during the first semester, then those two classes should not be overlapping.

You should consider taking PHARM in the summer if you want to do the class in person and through UH manoa. I think it's under summer extension and its taught by the same professors Dr. Read + Dr. Collier. They switch half way. Both are VERY knowledgeable, Dr. Read is strict and detailed, and Dr. Collier's lectures are more interesting and her tests are easier. I think PHARM was one the most interesting classes I've taken.

I'm pretty sure PHARM has to be taken during your first semester if you're entering during the fall semester. Of course this makes no sense considering PHARM is only offered in the fall and conflicts with 330L. :[ nothing we can do but take it during the summer.

you really don't want to be taking pharm during your first semester of nursing school. the whole transition into the nursing program is gonna be challenging enough. add to that your first clinicals (which start the 3rd week of school), weekly writeups, reading 4-5 chapters for N330 lecture each week, and you won't have a lot of time to be learning the 100+ drugs for pharm. don't do it unless you absolutely must.

i think last fall's 1st semester students had a conflict too b/c i didn't see any of them in our class when i took pharm (fall 08).

you technically COULD make the schedule work though. clinicals don't USUALLY go all the way to 6. you'll finish by 430-5ish on most days. then maybe 30min for post conference. our clinical start times varied quite a bit from the posted times as well. try to remember that clinicals are not like regular classes. times will vary based on the facility and your instructor.

clinical times will not be what you see on the schedule of classes. it's not final anyways. some of the lab times are obviously wrong. our second semester 331L times don't make any sense. one section meets 2 days a week while the other meets 3 days a week. lol

either talk to an adviser or sit tight and wait for you orientation info. they'll explain everything.

but again, i really wouldn't recommend taking pharm 1st semester. get it done over the summer if you can. if you need credits to make full time for aid, take some easy BS classes instead.

I'm happy to hear that there were other classes with the same issue. I'm not crazy! And I would much rather take some easy BS classes instead. Or a creative writing class to keep my stress down.

Thanks for the info! What's the difference between the regular summer session and summer extension? Is it just longer?

I'm not sure if its exactly longer, but the start and end dates of classes are usually different from the pre-set dates of the regular sessions. Sometimes summer extension classes will start during the spring semester... :stone
