KCC ADN Spring 2017

U.S.A. Hawaii

Published

Hi everyone!

I am planning to submit an application for KCC's ADN program for Spring 2017. I am just waiting to finish my Pharm 203 over the summer before putting my app in.

My stats aren't too good

Teas - 80.7

Pre-req - 1 B and the rest are A

Co-req - A in humanities, pending on Pharm 203

Health-related exp - been working as a CMA for 2.5 years. With a current CNA certification. Last CNA exp about 2-3 years ago.

I am going to meet with a counselor sometime next month just to kinda see my standing. But I am wondering how everyone's stats look like. Kindly post, if you don't mind.

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Btw, Dominic and NatCin, did you mail your application to the nursing dept or did you drop it off? I mailed mine so I am wondering how soon they send out the notification that they have received it.

Hi again! Sorry been too busy, the program is killer and it's only week 3! To NatCin, your TEAS score is pretty competitive but your grades/GPA may hurt you. I've done a rough survey among my classmates and their GPA's are mostly above 3.6 and a lot of them are 4.0 but it doesn't hurt to try! I've had classmates with a TEAS score of 79% but with all A's and got in (not an Alternate but straight "accepted"). And to LynM, I dropped them off but just as long as you sent them giving a few days to a week before deadline then that should be fine! It shouldn't factor in the duration of your notification letter. Those should come in at the same time as everyone else.

Regards,

Dominic

Thank you Dominic. I called them to make sure they received my application, and I was told they did. Now, its just a matter of waiting for the verdict. Haha

Hows your schedule so far? Is it too hard to work and be in the program at the same time?

Have fun with your classes. ☺

Hi! So far, things are all over the place honestly. I'm still not sure how to properly prep for my classes! On Mondays (for the first three weeks) we only have NURS210 which is like a foundations course where we learn skills and concepts on nursing. Lab days are TW and F so that's when we wear those cheesy "Trust Me I'm Almost a Nurse" shirts since they're our uniforms lol. Thursday is when we have Pathophysiology. Super hard to really understand things if you're not familiar with ur P&A courses and microbiology. We just got through our first round of exams (math quiz, exam 1 for NURS210, and patho) just barely survived! I recommend getting really close to like-students in class because they'll help you succeed! I'll probably stop replying here soon... We can stay in contact via DM's here (if that's possible) and I could share you things about the program! I wish someone did this to me before! Lol

Hey! Did you happen to get in the program for spring 2017? I'm applying to fall 2017 and I have similar stats as you except for the teas which i'll be taking in october.

Dominic - I'm pretty sure you'll figure out your schedule. You can do it ! Thank you for sharing your experience.☺

Dmmats8 - dominic got into the fall 2016. I applied for spring 2017 but I won't know the result until end of Oct/early Nov. Good luck on your teas test. They have a new version of the exam now.

Getting more and more excited as the end of the month approaches! I applied for Spring 2017 too 😊 How'd you do on your micro and TEAS re-take? We have similar TEAS and work experience though your grades are better than mine.

TEAS: 84.7

Prereqs: 2 B's, A's for the rest

Coreqs: A humanities, B Pharm203

Experience:Completion of CNA program (2011) and almost 3 years of recent work experience as a CMA (went through KCC's MEDA program)

I really really hope I get in. I asked the counselor about retaking anything and she told me that my application is competitive and I should just apply vs potentially wasting time/money re-taking things.

Livy803 - I am getting excited, yet scared. I am hoping we get in. Your TEAS score is higher thou. I scored lower on my retake. Lol. I got 79.8, I think.

My micro class is going okay. I have Dr. McElhaney.

Who did you speak with among the counselors? I am wondering when they are actually going to send the results out. I am hoping for a good result but at the same time, I don't really want to get my hopes up.

I spoke to Kristy. I also had McElhaney. That was 2 years ago though. I liked her. I found her engaging. She was old school and rigid when students misunderstood a question because of wording etc but if you do the homework (loved the worksheets she gave) and studied that and the quizzes....you should do well.

I have a good feeling. I'm calling it. We are both getting in :). Add me on fb if you have one. Olivia Tani | Facebook

I like Dr. McElhaney too. Old school but its working for me. A lil confused on some stuff but I think she is breaking the subjects down so its easier to understand.

Crossing fingers. I hope we do. I am wondering when they'll be sending the letters out.

Sorry Livy. I just recently deactivated my facebook.

Update: I just received the letter from KCC. On the alternate list for Spring 2017. :(

Shucks. But hey that means there's still a chance! No letter for me yet.
