VA Nursing

Specialties Government

I was wondering if someone in this thread can give me some insite on a VA Nursing Job Position! I am wanting to know how is it working as an LPN in a Surgical Unit, working with both Preoperative and Post Operative patients on the night shift? I am wanting to apply for the position but I am not sure. I am an LPN with no experience yet. Are my chance slim since I do not have LPN experience yet under my belt? But how is a person suppose to get experience when no one will take a chance with you to get the needed experience? I currently work at a Government Facility and have been working at it for 13 1/2 years but not as a Nurse. Do you think I have a chance of being considered since I work with the Government already? I am trying to stay with the Government so that my benefits and years will follow me. Any replies will be very much appreciated!! :)

Thank you,

Hi NurseLil-lea! I currently work at a VA hospital in the emergency department but I pass meds on the Medical and Surgical floors for overtime. LPNs at our facility generally are the med nurses. We have a unique barcode medication administration system that if used correctly greatly decreases the chances of you causing a med error. Our facility is in the process of hiring several LPNs to work in the primary care clinics to assist the primary care nurse but I am not exactly sure what their job will entail. I think your previous years of federal employment will help you. It will definitely help your pay if you are hired. It can be a long process getting hired but the benefits and pay will be better than you can get elsewhere. Also the benefit of caring for those that served is priceless!

Thank you sooo much w2cross2blue!! You make me feel so much better about Applying for the VA LPN Nursing positions that I am interested in. I know by working with the Government that everything is like, hurry up and than now wait:rolleyes:!! Sad but true!! I wished I worked where you worked, sounds Awesome!! Thank you again for your Fabulous response!!:)
