Hello ladies and gentlemen,

Can anyone give me info (not websites) on the commissioned corps? Such as: what are the physical requirements, what types of loan repayment programs are available, are there jobs available that are not all on indian reservations, etc. I'd love to chat with anyone who is in the corps currently.

Thanks in advance,'

I know a little about PHS. There are nursing jobs in IHS, Dept of immigration health, federal bureau of prison, NIH, CDC, coast guard, NOAA & US marshalls. The website is the best place to find information on loan repayments.

The benefits are pretty much exactly the same as the military except:

1. Deployments are extremely short to nonexistent.

2. Promotions are much faster in PHS (about 4-6 yrs quicker)

3. PHS gives educational credit...so you would start out as an O-2 instead of O-1 as a brand new graduate.

4. It is an commissioned officer corps only, no enlisted, and you are not under UCMJ in the PHS.

Here is the job list for nurses off of the USPHS website. It is separated by agency. This is not the only list. You can also search http://www.usajobs.gov, federal bureau of prisons, and Indian Health service directly (you just have to make sure that it is a position open to commissioned corps officers also).

I hope this helps a little.
