Questions about joining the NCP through the navy..

Can anyone tell me when is a good idea to contact a recruiter for interest in the NCP? I don't graduate until september 2012 from a diploma nursing program and plan to take the boards in november. Also, I was wondering what kind of questions are included in the packet and what the likelihood of being accepted is. Any kind of answers would really help me.

Specializes in CNOR.

The NCP is for BSN programs, I believe. The packet is pretty standard stuff like a physical, background check, transcripts, motivational statement, etc.

The Navy does not accept nurses who graduate from a diploma program. They only accept BSN graduates from schools that are accredited. Your chance of getting are, unfortunately, zero.

I am aware that I need to have my BSN prior to joining, my question was for the NCP because they will pay for me to continue my education to obtain my bachelors. I am going about getting in a different way, so actually my chance of getting in will be great.

I am aware that you were talking about the NCP program. I was under the impression that you were only going to get a degree from a diploma school, which would not enable you to get accepted in the NCP. You didn't mention that you were going do nursing school twice so that you could get a BSN, too. This changes things a bit.

In order to start the application process for NCP, you will need to have an acceptance letter from an accredited BSN program. You will then take this letter to an officer recruiter, and they tell you what you need to do.

Here's what you'll have to do:

Resume (last 7 years or so)

Purpose statement (400 words or less on why you want to be a Nurse Corps Officer)

Background check (huge pain in the butt)

Complete physical (this can take day or two, or months)

Interviews with active duty or retired Nurse Corps officers (two of them)

Character references (about 5 of them)

Transcripts (minimum GPA is 3.0, I believe. Of course, that is NOT competitive)

Academic degree plan from an adviser

That's all I can think of right now. There may be additional stuff if you have children or tattoos.

I am no longer going to do the NCP I am going to obtain my RN from my diploma program and then go to an RN to BSN program and then join the Navy Nurse Corps

I wish you the best of luck with that.

Thank you. I just regret not joining was I was 18, but I still have time to join.

HI, were you able to join the Navy???
