Navy Reserves and Post 9/11 Bill Questions

Hi,

Currently I am a nursing student with a plan to join the Navy Reserve as a HM. Once I get my degree, I plan to work as a civilian nurse whilst being in the reserves. If I decide to do the Reserves or not I plan to go on to get my Masters degree and become a CRNA.

If I join the reserves, get my degree and go onto CRNA school, with the Post 9/11 Bill help pay for that schooling? I'm unsure what dictates how much (if any) they would pay.

Any help or advice is appreciated, and thank you in advance.

Yes the 9/11 GI will pay. You have to be deployed to get the 9/11 GI Bill and the amount of time spent on deployment determines how much they will pay. There are other education programs offered if you do not qualify for the 9/11 GI Bill.

So if I was just in the reserves, but never deployed, I would not qualify for any education program where I would get money towards a higher education?

Yes you will. You would qualify for this, but I don't think these programs pay as much as the 9/11 GI Bill.

OP, you'd best go to the source:

https://www.navyreserve.com/benefits/training-education.html

This page contains information on all the benefits that you could potentially earn through your service in the reserves.

The Post-9/11 GI Bill is a benefit program that provides generous educational assistance to those with qualifying Active Duty service on or after September 11, 2001. In general, eligibility requires a minimum of 90 days of aggregate service for Reservists since this date, or at least 30 days of continuous Active Duty service if discharged due to a service-connected disability since this date.

The percentage of your tuition that the bill will pay is dependent upon how long you've served on active duty.

To receive the maximum payout, you must have 36 months of aggregate service on or after September 11, 2001.

Thanks guys, really helps.

I have a meeting with the recruiter next week.
