I am a student in an ROP Health Careers program for high schoolers and we have to interview two persons with the career we would like to pursue. I was hoping someone could answer the following questions for me?

How did you get your job? Furlough pushed me to er since it was all civilian.

How did you decide this was "the" career you wanted to persue? Long history of family service and navy has better duty stations.

How old were you when you first became interested in this profession? 16 military. 19 nursing.

At what age did you become employed in this medical field? Ncp 21 commissioned at 23.

What was your previous job and how did you get it? Medsurg nurse. It was that or labor and delivery......

Describe your work day from start to finish. What are your duties and responsibilities? I work shift work. On this some days I can be charge nurse. Otherwise I take care of patients. Mentor corpsman and complete any collateral duties I have.

Is there a specific standard of dress? If so what? Er is scrubs.

Is your dress code different from anyone else at your place of business? If so, how is it different? Yes. Med surg was nwu and khakis on Friday.

What are you working conditions/work environment like? Mediocre. A lot of people down there not use to active duty presence.

Are there any job training programs, continuing educations or in-service? If so describe: yea your normal acls, pals, Nrp, tncc,combat causality care course and navy trauma center.

What do you like best about your job? Saving lives.

What you like least about your job? Politics.

What is the most interesting part of your job?

You never know what's coming in the door or coming in over the radio.

What is the average pay? You can look up our pay.

On average, how many hours do you work per week?40 to 60
