Hi everyone. I am trying to join the Navy Nurse Corps for FY 2014 (Oct. 2013). I know this is a bit early for a thread like this but I plan on beginning my package in January 2013 to allow maximum time to perfect my application kit. I will be graduating with my BSN May 2013 and plan on taking NCLEX shortly after. I am hoping my kit will be triple checked before I submit it to the board. I am in the process of contacting a healthcare recruiter is San Diego right now and hopefully get stuff moving along. I just wanted to post this thread for others that are also planning on applying for FY2014 commissioning. I will be sharing information as the process goes along so you guys can get an idea of timeframe of events. I know I have been on all these similar threads trolling for answers in the hopes of adequate preparation.. Hope to meet some of you with similar goals soon :yes: Kim

Congratulations Kim, and good luck. I'm considering joining the service as well depending on the market when I graduate a BSN program. I have 8 years enlisted, so it'll be nice to get commissioned as an 0-2E, or even as an 0-3E if I spend some extra time in the field before hand (The way I understand it is for every year RN experience you have prior to commissioning, 6 months is applied to time in grade!).

I have 8 years enlisted, so it'll be nice to get commissioned as an 0-2E, or even as an 0-3E if I spend some extra time in the field before hand (The way I understand it is for every year RN experience you have prior to commissioning, 6 months is applied to time in grade!).
Hi there. I also have 8 years enlisted in the USMC. As a new grad, we would go in as an O1-E. Maybe I could land a job before package goes to board to get some experience :-) I'm loving critical care too! I know as a new grad going into Navy, most likely we will be put med-surg but that's fine too! I'm just excited to finally be moving into the next phase of my life!

Are you considering AD, reserves, or both?
Hi there. I am pushing for Active Duty so I can take advantage of the New Grad program. However, if it is possible to apply for both, such as AD being primary and Reserves as secondary, I will do it, to increase my chances of being commissioned. I doubt we could apply for both though. I really want AD so I can continue my "time in service" years. I already have 8 yrs prior enlisted so technically all I need is 12 more years to be eligible to retire :-) !!!

Hi I am looking for information on how to apply and things I need to do. Could u provide me with a number because I have spoken with recruiters and they are clueless about the program. I would really appreciate your help.

Hey, guys! I also plan on applying for DA this fall. I would take either Active or Reserve. I graduate with my BSN in December, so I won't have any experience besides clinical. I was AD Navy as an IT for 4 years. I miss the lifestyle. Good luck to everyone!

I would start by locating your nearest Healthcare recruiter. Don't talk to the enlisted guys because they have no jurisdiction on officers. I live in Milwaukee and my recruiter is based out of Chicago.

Hi. Because you graduate in December, I think that you will probably miss the boards for FY2014. Most application packages are sent Aug/Sept for the October boards and then shortly after, selections are made. But that is something a healthcare recruiter could verify. You would most likely have to wait until FY2015 boards. But it doesn't hurt to get all the admin stuff out of the way :-)

I won't miss the boards. *If* I were selected, I would just leave after I take the NCLEX.

Congratulations on your decision to serve and best of luck to you during the lenghty application process. Before I joined the Navy as a healthcare administrator, I looked to the allnurses website for the wealth of information that can be found here. Now I'm currently a Medical Programs Recruiter for the Navy... I decided to officially register on this site as way to "give back" to the community that helped me out. Hopefully I can be a resource to any who are looking for insight/guidance in joining the military. I can speak as an active duty Service Member in the health field and also as a recruiter :)
