Hi everyone, I am contemplating to join the US Army BSN STRAP prorgam. The more I learn about military nursing the more I like it. I have already schedule my medical examination/physical and I have a few questions for those of you who have gone through the process. I will list the questions that I should answer "yes" to and please let me know if I have a chance for a waiver or if I might be automatically disqualified.
1- Take meds regularly. (yes, for thyroid benign nodule, my thyroid levels are within normal limits, the endocrinologist have put me on a low dose of synthroid to see if the nodule decreases in size. I have not been diagnosed with hypo or hyperthyoidism)
2- Thyroid problems (yes, as explained above).
3-Ever had deppression/anxiety? Yes, I was hospitalized once for depression. Cognitive therapy and meds helped. Have not had any trouble with deppresion or taken any meds since then. (7 years ago).
4- Have you ever considered/ attempted suicide? yes, 7 years ago. Mentioned above with the depression and hospitalization.
5- Had a change in menstrual pattern? Yes, I had endometriosis in 2004 and had laparoscopy surgery for it.
6- Have been treated for female menstrual disorders such as painful periods or cramps? Yes, as I mentioned above. The endometriosis caused theses symptoms. I have not had any further issues since then.
These are the questions that a yes answer apply to me. I will like to have an idea of what are my chances of qualifying for the pshysical exam and hopefully have a waiver. Some people have mentioned to me to leave certain things unsaid, but that kind of make me fell uneasy since there are medical records outhere of the conditions mentioned above. I don't want to join the military and been dishonorably discharge becuase I lie in my application or I held important information from them. Please give me your imput, thanks.
