hi everyone,

i'm a senior ADN student, graduating in may 2005. I currently work as a CNA II in a neurology ICU while I'm finishing school. my fiancee is a sergeant in the army, stationed at okinawa, japan. he'll be there until july of 2006.

I'm trying to find out if I can get a civilian job at a base hospital there on oki as a new grad. I know how to submit an application, but I'm trying to get a feel for whether or not it's even feasible for me to get a job there. it would be extremely expensive to move me over there, but we're willing to do it if a job pops up. we've been separated now for eight months, and neither of us is excited about another 18 months of this. but we're realists, too...if this is going to be impossible, we'll know not to spend too much time worrying about it. I know that there's military spouse preference for civil service jobs, but, for a couple of reasons, we're not able to get married yet, so that won't help us right now.

any information or opinions you can share would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

rachel

Hey,

I found a website that has stuff on it for overseas civilian jobs....opm.gov. I am looking for someone who has done this just to see what their experience has been. I agree, very expensive to do....especially if you get over there and don't like it.

Hi, I am a graduate nurse. And, my husband and I are stationed at Misawa AB, Japan. I find it very hard to find a nursing job here; because, the military already has all of the personel needed. But, during the summer months is when openings can become available due to massive PCSing. You can go to the bases official web site to find out job info or you can email someone at the education office to find out more info. Good Luck!!!
