Civilian jobs on military bases

Specialties Government

Published

Greetings!

I saw the post today about Civilian contracts @ Pendelton & I wanted to ask this question before. Just never got around to it.

I am prior military.

I was wondering what department or whom I'd contact regarding getting a civilian job as an RN on a military base.

Thanks!!

Keep trying... as long as there is a conflict, there will be openings for Germany and other places. Once combat ops are officially over, it will be time to bring not only the troops but all of those people that were hired under GWOT funds.

Good luck and be safe.

@armyucurn:wow that is a good news..now i will find ways to obtain green card..ill check if the walterreed is offering an employment vsa..thanks a lot!!!Godbless.

Not to burst your bubble, it is not that common. But it's been done before you can apply, the worst thing that will happen is that you don't get hired. I think the general rule is at least one year of experience. I worked in a unit that hired a new grad so it's not impossible, but not very likely. It's salary, sort of. You are offered an amount of money that will be your base pay. Like I said I was working overseas so I got an additional amount of money daily called post allowance. You will also relieve holiday pay and night or weekend differential if you work nights or weekends. They call it premium instead of differential. But if you aren't using leave or holiday time you don't get paid if you don't work.

Like I said, I worked overseas as a local hire and I was hired at one pay grade less than a friend who I went to nursing school with. We have the same degree, same experience, did the same job. But she was in the U.S. Keeping in mind that if I worked nights or weekends my pay would be higher and it worked out to ROUGHLY mid 20's/hr and we were 40 hr week employees.

Bad idea you will not enjoy working with young un grateful military nurses who know it all one day out of school

your pay will be half what you make in the civilian world

I took a contract for 2 yrs in Germany as a civilian nurse with the army worst decision of my professional life

and the same army nurses will report your every infraction to the superior who will treat you like a criminal.........and i have 20 years as a registered nurse in major city hospitals
