Can you learn nursing while serving?

Or must you be a nurse before joining the military?

So far I'm leaning towards the latter, but having others insight would be nice.

Speaking for the Army, the Army commissions all of its BSN-prepared RNs AFTER they have completed school. We don't usually accept ADN nurses (except in some rare cases).

The Army trains LPNs on the enlisted side, but that usually requires getting your combat medic first and then getting slated to go to LPN school. The chances of that happening aren't good.

If you want to be a nurse in the military, I strongly suggest you get your BSN and come in as an officer. It's competitive, but that is your best bet.

Thank you so much :D

If you go in for LPN (68C) training you will no longer need to become a combat medic (68W) first since the Army has separated MOS's again.

To add on this if you do try to get 68C for your MOS... Make sure you have EVERYTHING in writing . Do not let them talk you into another MOS, and implying it is faster. If you have any questions PM me. I'm an NCO and a 68C. Bets of luck !
