I'm considering the Army Nurse Corps but still have lots of questions. I have talked to a health recruiter and received some information...he's been helpful thus far. I'm curious about the two week training...seems like trying to get a lot of info in a short period of time...what do you do there? PT? What is the Army physical like? PT?

Hello SilverNessima,

I am also talking with a recruiter and have watched him tell me two bold face lies, very enthusiastically. However, I knew otherwise and chose not to correct him at that moment.

I did a google search on Nurses and OBC training. My recruiter says it 10 weeks and elsewhere I have read 11-12 weeks so I am not sure. However, no place did I read 2 weeks only. UNLESS you are going reserves, I am aiming for active duty, I will search around for the link again to come back and edit to add it here.

I realize you must be going for reserves then right? Your recruiter is definately giving you a different experience than mine. The old "used car salesman" thing is alive and well, ugh, hope he doesn't screw up my app, yesterday he almost opened up my sealed academic transcripts! He said, "Oh, we can't use these since they were issued to you" as he proceeded to rip a tear in the envelope. I held out my hand and said, "STOP!" Oy.

Hello,

At 40 I thought I was too old for active duty too. Turns out that the age for nurses is extended to 46.5, (and up to 52 in certain situations from what I hear and have even read on this site too).

All the best!

Navy ROTC....you don't go to OIS after.

And I graduated OIS in April, and I its no cake walk! I did have CPO's and a Marine Drill Instructor yelling in my face. But its only 5 wks. So it goes by fast, but as mentioned before the hardest part is being out of touch with your family. I can answer any more questions about Navy OIS if needed.
