BDCP and loan repayment?

Hello,

I am currently an ADN student and currently paying for school with loans. I would like to be an Officer in the Navy and I have a few questions. Am I eligible to recieve the BDCP for my BSN when I will also have loan debt from my ADN degree? Do I have to pay off all of my loans before I can enter the Navy or will they halp me pay them off? Any input would be appreciated, thanks.

Having student loans doesn't disqualify you from the Navy. As a matter of fact, I was able to defer my student loans for 3 years while an active duty Navy Nurse. I was a direct commission, and did not go BDCP, but did look into it, having already accumulated college debt, and was never told debt was an issue for the program. Most Navy medical people have debt when they go in, unless they were in ROTC, prior enlisted, or participated in some program where the Navy paid their bills. I decided not to go the BDCP route as I wasn't sure I wanted to be in the military at all, and didn't want to obligate myself until I was sure. The only programs I have heard that offered repayment of loans to Navy Nurses was only for advanced practice nurses, not BSN. Dentists and physicians get help with theirs after committing for a few years, but when I was active duty, only NP's got any type of payback. I have heard that the Air Force does give nurses reimbursement.
