Hello All,

I am in nursing school currently, working on finishing my BSN. I was thinking of joining the army reserves while in school as a way to pay for some of the schooling and start as an army nurse. Does anyone have experience about joining the reserves while in school?

Thank you

I have been in school as enlisted army reserves while finishing my LPN to ASN and as officer while getting my BSN. You can enlist now before you finish school but will have to pay them time for any bonus or college money and may slightly hamper the commission process after you graduate. If you are close to finishing BSN, it is probably better to wait and come straight in as officer with bonus and loan repayment but if you have a while and are interested and willing to serve, you can enlist for the bonus and college bennies. You will be subject to deployment unless you get a guarantee in lieu of some bonus money which I don't know if they are still offering. Once you get your BSN there are several schools available for further training, ER, ICU, etc.
