I'm going to join the Army Reserves as a nurse and I had a few questions. I know this situation changes but how often are Army Reserve nurses being deployed at the moment, how long for and to where?

When you're deployed, generally what does your day look like? How many hours of work and how much down time do you get?

What do you do during the drill weekends?

When you deploy there is a good chance you will work 6 12 hours shifts a week not including having to come in for MASCALS. What you will depend I where you deploy to. If you go to a place like Kosovo you will be at work but will not have a lot of work. If you go to Afghanistan you could be either very busy or very slow depending on the time of year, the unit, and where you are at.

Drill weekend will depend on the unit; some units there is a military treatment facility or VA hospital you will work at. Others you are just a warm body doing repetitive training. Once you get with your unit get involved with leaders to find a position in the unit that has you doing something other than sitting in classrooms.

im thinking about joined army reserve as an np. how long is BOLC ? my recruiter told me 7 weeks, but a friend of mine who went through it only went for 4

For an NP in the reserves, you'll go down for 26 days. If you go after October 1 of this year, you'll have to go to Fort Sill for a few weeks before.
