Army Nurse Corps FY2013

Specialties Government

Published

Hey everybody, I'm starting a thread here for those applying to the Army Nurse Corps in FY2013. I figure this might be a good place to get to know other future nurse corps officers and a place for the veterans of the ANC to pass on some advice.

Share your story and hopefully we will meet down in San Antonio this Winter/spring of 2013

Ill start with my story,

I am a 28 y/o critical care nurse with 2 years experience in a level 2 trauma center in Virignia. I passed MEPS at Ft. Eustis and have submitted security packet, letters of reference and letter of intent.

I am applying to the October review board for Active Duty Army Nurse Corps for the 66H8A(critical care) and 66T(trauma) programs( I am not sure if they are still running this one, but you don't get what you don't ask for).

I am happily married with a baby on the way, my wife is 100% behind a move the Army and I feel blessed to have her love and support.

The road to the Army has been a long one with a degree in Biology, stint as a drug rep and return for an accelerated BSN.

I love being a nurse and love working in critical care. I hope to serve my country in uniform treating service members & their families at home and in forward deployed units.

I want to be an critical care nurse and officer in the U.S. Army and I hope that I will get to meet all of you in uniform at BOLC, at MEDDAC, CSH or FST in CONUS or OCONUS.

Here's to all us achieving our dreams of becoming Army Nurses!

HOOOOOOAH!

nursespouse, I am a 66h. thanks for the info.! Best of luck to you and your wife! My fingers are crossed for Feb.28th :)

After doing a little research and looking at my DD-214 my RE code was a '3' which requires a waiver to reenlist. I received this I guess bc I got out a little less than 2 months before my ETS date so that I could start school. I am hoping that this doesn't make a waiver hard to obtain. Anyone have any insight on this?

At this point I am just very excited and hoping this continues to go in my favor. Thanks everyone for all the info posted.

What was the chapter you used to get out on?

Idk but it was an honorable discharge. My separation code was KCF which is 'Early release-to attend school'. My ETS was mid September and I got out the 25 JUL so I could start school in August. I'm not sure what chapter it was though.

I just hope this won't be a big deal but I don't think it will be.

under normal enlisting standards, getting back in with a 3 is hard hard hard. But, in your case, where you are commissioning with the skill you have I do not hink it owuld be that much of a problem. As long as your dd214 is pretty clean an d you really had no misconduct.

How do you know that it is hard to get back in with a 3? Every thing I researched said it was as simple as a waiver. A '4' it said it almost near impossible as it is usually a dishonorable or other than honorable, etc.

Either way I'm hoping it won't be a big deal. I just don't understand why it was a '3' to begin with.

Just got word my waiver got approved about an hour ago. Now I am waiting on my scroll???.. and then permisson for me to commission?

What is the whole scroll process about and how long does it take?

on my information for the 3 code being hard to get in, is strictly from research and recruiters. It technically means that with a waiver you are allowed to reenlist. But with the troop drawdown, they have been turning down lots of people, even with a 1 code. That is all I meant by that. The scrolling process depends on alot of things. It took my wife about 3-4 weeks before we got word to come sign the contract and letter of intent. Seeing so many things start to really move along pretty fast though, I can see it going pretty quickly for you. Good luck man.

Scrolling can take 4-6 weeks. Maybe they can expedite it somehow??

Oh I understand completely, no harm. My recruiter sort of had the same thought and said it should be pretty quick. He said a few days... but from what I've seen on here I'd say it will take a lot longer. Thanks a lot for your well wishes.

Have you been told the same about your scroll?? What has your recruiter told you?

Mine was submitted Nov 9 and didn't come through till the Jan 10. But, you have to consider the many holidays in between where nothing was accomplished....
