Army Nurse Candidate Program HELP!!!!!

I just ran across an article on the goarmy.com website dealing with the Army Nurse Candidate Program. It did not tell me as much as I would like to know but told me enough to peak my interest. I am currently in the Associates Nursing Program and after graduation I immediately plan on getting my BSN. In order to qualify into the program does it matter if I enroll on a college campus or can I get my BSN online from an accredited online school? What are the pros and cons of this program? How many years do you have to commit to the army after the program? Do you have to enlist before you start the ANCP?

Here is some info that I received on the program.

Army Nurse Candidate Program (ANCP)

This is a BSN degree program only. Students must be eligible to enlist

in the Army Reserve.

Provides $10,000 bonus (split disbursement) and $1,000 per month stipend

during months enrolled in a full-time CCNE or NLN accredited BSN

producing nursing program.

Must complete BSN between 6 months to 24 months then pass NCLEX-RN exam

before commissioning as an Army Nurse Corps officer.

Obligation is four years for a one year completion of program or five

years for a two year completion program.

It is pretty competitive. I don't believe that you enlist in the normal way, but you are IRR. The IRR is the inactive ready reserve, in the IRR you

are carried on the books in case of national emergency, but don't have

any active role. The normal program has 4-5 years on active duty,

followed by 3-4 years of IRR (everyone in every branch signs up for 8),

if there was a great need for nurses during a national emergency you

could potentially be kept on, or called back to active duty during the

period you are on IRR.

Hi, is there any information on ANCP FY 2013? Am I eligible if I am already enlisted in USAR? I was looking into the Army Enlisted Commissioning Program (AECP) as well and ROTC. But then I came across the ANCP. Looks promising!

Hey Wanda, because you're enlisted, you should go the AECP route. ANCP is for non-military direct commissionees only.

They are not currently accepting ANCP for 2013 and 2014 fiscal year due to buget costs, that is what recruiter told me.
