Quote from PMFB-RN
I am prior service (army medic, infantry) and am currently an ADN RN working in an ICU. I am in an RN to BSN program and am considering attempting to join the USPHS commisioned corps when I finish my BSN. I have some questions if there any USPHS nurses here and willing to respond.
Thanks in advance!
I was contemplating joining the Commissioned Corps Officers of the Public Health Service, (the 'right' way to say it as I had been corrected.
My intent was to join the Army and then go CC of PHS and when I wasn't sure if the Army was going to pick me up I emailed the CC and received an informative phone call.
I was told that I could apply right now, or that I could wait until after my active duty.
The age limit is 44 years old, however, there is credit for age served in the Military, (deduct the years served from your age).
If you served over 8 years in the Military there will be extra paperwork but, that should not stop you, it is merely some sort of waiver for pension ?
Have you been to their website? It breaks down your benefits and so on, even uniform, (similar to Navy).
I highly recommend, using the "contact us" link and am very impressed with the information and prompt reply.
