Any chance of still getting to apply for Navy NCP 2015?

Hello everyone,

I haven't been able to get in touch with my local Navy recruiter yet :/ I'm sure he is just super busy so it is taking a while to respond to my call. However, I'm intersted in applying for the NCP program. I will be graduating in May of 2015. Is there still a chance for me to apply? I saw that many people already applied and they had a board in November. I have been considering this for almost two years now, but have just made my decision.

Does anyone know the odds of getting in the program? I have a GPA of 3.72. That is a great GPA in my program here, but I'm not sure how that stacks up in the Navy.

Thanks for all your insight!

I'll be a nurse for the Air Force starting in March, so I can't say much about the Navy specifically. In general, there are programs for stipends while you are in school culminating in a commission at graduation; you've missed that window. However, you can directly commission through an application once you become (or are near becoming) a BSN nurse. We had 1 new grad board per year and 2 experienced boards per year. You need to start those about 5-6 months before the deadline. The new grad boards seem to be mid-summer.

Get prepared now by finding people to write recommendation letters for you and by tracking down your medical records. The details of any major diagnosis, surgery, or hospitalization need to be in there; make sure you don't have a disqualifying condition before you start putting the work in.

The GPA is fine, but most of your competition will have something similar. Focus on certifications, continuing education, and work experience (or volunteering if you can't work yet). The real key is persistence and patience putting the application together. You're going be calling/emailing your recruiter 1-2 times per week at least for months. Applying to multiple branches would help your odds.
