Accelerated BSN and NCP

Hi,

I'm new here and I am interested in joining the navy and being a nurse. I have been in contact with my local recruiter but he doesn't seem to be too proactive with getting back to me!

I am just wondering if anyone has gone through this program in an accelerated BSN program rather than a 4 yr program. I wasn't sure if the NCP is only for 4 yr degrees or not. The accelerated program I am applying to is 16 months.

Thanks for any help!

Questions for you, you are already a nurse and just getting your BSN? I have never heard of any program where a BSN only takes 16 months, you may need to check into it more. My wife was able to complete an ADN in 10 months, but a boat load of credits before she went to school. After the ADN, she got her BSN online. As for NCP, I was in a 4 year nursing program and applied for NCP in my sophmore year and then received money for the junior and senior years in school. After that it was a 5 year commitment for me and the rest is history. If you want more specifics, let me know, been in the Navy going on 9 years now.

When I was earning my accelerated BSN, the NCP was an option and I was in a 12 month curriculum. I am not sure if that is still the case...

Is the recruiter an officer recruiter? If not, I would ditch the local recruiter and go straight to an officer recruiter. If you are anywhere close to SoCal, I can get you in contact with a local officer recruiter, who is a nurse corps officer. Otherwise, I would recommend the "find a recruiter" tab on navy.com. You put in your zip code and they will give you the nearest officer recruiter to your location. Good luck

I'm not a nurse now. The school i'm applying to has a 16 month BSN if you already have a BS in something else. I have to still take 4 prereqs, so the 16 months is only nursing classes. The school is www.musc.edu if you want to check it out. Hopefully i'm understanding it right!

Oh and yeah, the recruiter I'm talking with is a medical officer recruiter. Not sure why he isn't getting back to me on my question. I just want to know if I can apply to the program or not! But maybe because I'm not applying to nursing school until Spring 07 he feels he has awhile to wait? Oh well. I'll wait and see if I get accepted and then harrass him again.

Thanks for your help!
