Hi, I am new to a facility and I am doing some MDS assessments and managing the restorative program. Apparently, no one has really ever done that before. We have a census of about 100 including a secure dementia unit. I have 2 great restorative CNAs who seem to have been keeping things afloat. But I would really like to build the program into something unique. Any ideas, feedback out there? thanks:chuckle

Dear surfnbeagle, Welcome to allnurses.com. Could you please elaborate more as what exactly you mean by 'restorative', and 'restorative program'. Is this in any way like rehabilitation - but at a slowly diminishing level of activity, reflected by the gradual deterioration of the client? I have only come across this term in young and temporary sick clients that do recover and come under the heading of well clients that have in their care plan the statement that as soon as they are admitted, they have an on-going plan formulated towards their discharge. This does not happen very often in our aged care facilities.

(Restoration: strengthen; return to former self/situation; recover health or spirits; re-establish; give back.)

Sincerely

Mister Chris :specs:
