New to Supervising in LTC

Specialties Geriatric

Published

Hi

I am an RN with 1 1/2 years LTC and 2 Years med surge experience {along with home health and agncy mixed in to fill 5 of the last 10 years} and am begining a supervisory position in a few weeks

Can anyone reconend a good reference or give me good advice about how to transition between floor work, and supervising? Some say I need to toughen up, some say I know 90% of everything I will ever need to know, and yet others say I will be a total flop by new years (my current ADON included)

I REALLY want to do a good job, and I need to keep on this night shift so I can have some time with my kids.

I have worked nights a couple of times, and it has been less hard each time I have done it, but I am NOT a hard @$$ type nurse, and do not want to be a push over. I am going into a situation where the people there have been there a lot longer than I have been working with this company (7 months)

Any help would be apreciated, thanks

the only advice that I can offer is to try to be as fair as possible and try to see both sides of every problem you face. Understand first that you will not and cannot please everyone under you when you have to make decisions. Just make sure that the decisions that you do make, you know was the best choice. I know it is not much but I hope it helps.
