Hello everyone,

My name is Michael De Peralta. I am collecting information for my capstone project at . The topic for information collecting is: Aspiration Pneumonia in the Elderly.

INFORMED CONSENT

You are invited to participate in a capstone project being conducted by a student from Western Governors University. Michael De Peralta is conducting this study to determine the best practices regarding the prevention and treatment of the disease from practicing nurses.

Description of the project

This study will investigate the causes, best practices or interventions of aspiration pneumonia in the elderly.

- This study will be conducted to provide a clear understanding of the disease, causes, and best interventions for the prevention of it.

- Practicing nurses will be participating in an online educational community forum

- The study will take approximately 2 months or until enough data is gathered to complete the study.

- The nurses will participate in an online questionnaire. Discussion will be based on the questions of the questionnaire that will be presented.

- The results will be used to complete the study and will be presented along with other the data that was collected for the project.

Benefits and Risks of this study

The benefits for the participants, student, and to general education is to increase awareness of the disease by understanding the cause, treatments, and best interventions to hopefully facilitate a change in the process to better serve our patients. There are no inherent risks in participating in this study.

Confidentiality

Participant confidentiality will be maintained during this study. Records will only be seen by the student and that all data that is reported will be aggregated.

Voluntary participation and withdrawal

Participants are expected to participate in the questionnaire online, provide answers to the questions, and post discussions. However, they also may withdraw from the study at any time. Participants are also allowed to request that their individual results be excluded from the final report or omit some of their responses to the questions in the study.

I tried the survey, I was using my iPhone, which may be part of the problem, but several questions did not allow any answers and even more were very confusing as to what kind of answer you were looking for. I work in LTC and we do have a few cases of aspiration pneumonia per year, but I was not able to complete your survey.

I was unable to answer all the questions...I am unwilling to answer questions for a Capstone research project that are grammatically incorrect.
