What's it like to work at CHOA as an RN?

I work at CHOA now PRN while in nursing school. I love the environment, people, and values, and everyone always talks about how people leave and only want to come right back! I guess this is the only place I've ever known, but I just don't feel like pediatrics is the area for me. Maybe I'm looking for something that doesn't exist, but I want more challenge, excitement, and interesting/weird stuff. Is this just a naive nursing student attitude? Will I regret it if I don't get a job there after graduation? They have a really high retention rate for a reason, and are in the top 100 best companies for which to work. Plus, as a nonprofit, I can apply to get some student loans forgiven as well. Seems like a lot of pluses... but I am also worried that if I start out in pediatrics, I will be limited to that area from then on.

I definitely think you should do whatever it is you feel is best for you. I know there are some good adult hospitals out there that you may love just as much. If you want to work in adults then you should start looking in that directions because it is easier to go from adults to peds than peds to adults. If you dont want to do peds and you decide to stay you may not love it, and when it comes to nursing you really need to love your job in order to contiue to do it.

The world of nursing is very huge.. the job market in atlanta for nurses is very slim! Trust me im learning the hard way now.. being that you have an already existing job at Choa i suggest you stay there for now being that you will most likely have a secure job there after you graduate. it could just be the floor you are working on that is not exciting. As you said CHOA has a lot of pluses that other hospitals dont. Being that there are many different areas of nursing you have your whole life to figure out which area is best for you. as a nursing student who hasnt even gone through all your clinicals i would say dont jump the gun. :D:up:
