UNG Fall 2013

U.S.A. Georgia

I know it is still early, but thought it would be nice to start a new thread for the Fall 2013 ASN students on here. Which campus you will be attending and where you are commuting from? I will be at the Gainesville campus and live in Jasper.

I think a lot of people in my class work. It's definitely manageable. I think much more manageable on first year than second year.

I am doing the extern program now - it's only over the summer but they will keep most externs on as pct's for the second year of nursing school.

The good thing about that is you only have to work twice a month to keep your foot in the door.

I didn't work a job outside of the one but did homeschool four grades during nursing school. So I was mostly doing school with the kids rather than school for me. First year though isn't too bad. I am worried about sec done year but I know it's possible.

Great to know! Thank you so much! Keep up the amazing work! :)

Wow... God bless you for that. I homeschooled my two K through 12 and I know how much work that is.

I was homeschooling five, but we graduated our oldest and he is now a Marine. Homeschooling all the way through here too. :)

Wow! That's intense!! Good job!!

Okay everyone - I tried making a Facebook group but need at least one person to add to the group in order to even make it in the first place. Please feel free to add me on FB: Type in Bethany Hoernfeldt, or click here, or simply copy and paste this to make it easier as sometimes my name fails to come up: Bethany Laurèl Hörnfeldt

After that, I can add you to the group. :)

I added you, thanks! I'll come up as Patricia Anne Baduel-Co. :-).

Working is definitely doable, especially first year. I worked full-time (3 12 hour shifts a week) through both years of nursing school. I thought it was hard first year and I'm sure it was but it was very, very hard second year, with having clinical 2 days a week and class one day, add working 3 days, left me with only one day a week to do everything. Plus, being a single mom, I was doing everything at my house. It is doable but honestly, I think that I survived on about 4 hours of sleep a night second year. It was hard and I did it, but I'm not exactly sure how I did! I maintained a 3.4 GPA and am very proud of being able to get all As and Bs in my nursing classes with all that I was juggling. You have to prioritize, let people help you, let go of things that you just cannot do and do what you have to do.

I have another question, what is the attendance policy? I have a day that I might have to miss and am nervous

I'm not sure about missing days. I think you can miss two days of lecture - maybe - not sure.

I didn't miss any, but it seems like I read that in the handbook they gave us at orientation.

As for clinicals that's something you'll need to make up. There is make up work if you need to miss a day but I would discourage missing any days if you can make that work somehow.

They're pretty strict about attendance both years. If you miss clinical, there will be makeup work. First year's makeup work was bad, second year's was completely out of control awful. We missed a day of clinical for Med/Surg because school was cancelled due to snow and we had this HUGE paper to write, despite the fact that it was out of our control. It was awful.

You can miss class but I'm pretty sure that the "party line" is that you can only miss 7 hours total each semester between class and clinical. If you have to miss anything, I would recommend missing class. Also, they didn't seem to mind too much if you left early, as long as you clear it with the lecturer first. I know that at our campus last year, people left early ALL the time, sneaking out and nothing was ever said.

For those who don't know Class of 2015 has started FB page where we are sharing information related to school. If you can join please do so if you don't have FB here is some information we have shared so far:

You can reserve the books needed for Fall semester with the bookstore and receive a 5% discount. However our books will not be in until the end of the month. The bundle includes about 7 books. We will need a lab kit which is $99. Another suggested book is the APA writing style book. Both are available now.

If you reserve them, You can pay for the books when they come in. They will call you and take your credit card info over the phone.

Uniforms are all white with the exception of the blue polo shirt.

If you have never taken classes at UNG you can now pick up your student ID and parking permit.

Signing up for the mentor program is suggested as well.

That's all the info we have shared so far. See you guys soon!!!

What is the link to the FB page?
