Shadow a Nurse Programs?

I am currently a teacher interested in changing careers to nursing. I am finish with taking my prerequisites and have applied to one program. I am interested in this program because it would allow me to work full time while pursing the BSN degree. I was really confident in my decision to pursue nursing but now I am hesitant. I would really like to shadow a nurse before I put money into degree and decide I don't want to do it. I know Piedmont hospital use to have shadowing programs but I can't find the program anymore. Grady has program but the website said you have to be in a nursing program. Are there any other shadow a nurse programs at any hospitals or even outside of the hospital agencies in Atlanta?

I don't know of any shadow programs, but you can call HR at the hospitals you are interested in and see if they might have something that just isn't advertised. You could also try to volunteer at the hospital and that would expose you to the practice and atmosphere. If you know of any nurses, I'd encourage you to talk to them in depth. Nursing can have its rewards, but it is also extremely challenging mentally, physically, spiritually, every which way. This is my second career also and if I knew then what I know now, I may have gone a different direction. Not trying to discourage you at all; I applaud your interest in finding out before you are in too deep and I wish you the best of luck with whatever you decide.

I believe that DeKalb Medical has something like this. Contact Volunteer services at DeKalb and they may be able to help you.

Thank you! I have decided to continue with nursing and start my program in January. I am going to still get in touch with some one there so maybe I can get my feet in the door job wise.
