Kennesaw State University Nursing 2012

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

Hello Everybody,

I received a letter from Kennesaw on Aug. 9th.....and......I've been selected for an interview for the spring 2012 accelerated program. I guess my fourth try was a charm.:yeah: I really was not expecting this because I've applied three times before and never got selected for an interview. I mentally gave up...so this was a complete surprise. Is there anyone out there that has received a letter? I'm nervous, anxious, and overwhelmed all at the same time. I guess I need to get in touch with the Career Center and schedule a mock interview. Also, I went on the KSU nursing website and saw that they no longer list the Jasper and Rome campuses for the accelerated program. Will they be taught on the Main KSU campus? I started this post because I didn't see any other post for Kennesaw's Spring admission, so if you find one let me know. Good luck to everyone that got a letter.

Congrats runningman10! I applied for the accelerated for fall 2012. I'm not certain, but I think that all of the classes for the program will be at the Kennesaw campus. If you dont mind me asking, what were your GPA and TEAS score? Just trying to get a feel for what my chances are of being accepted for fall.

Hey BrigetteB! My grades are around a 3.9 and my TEAS was 99%, but don't go by these. I've read on lots of posts that a 3.0 and TEAS of 85% will get you an interview. If you want to know about the interview just let me know and I'll tell you all about it! Good luck, Brigitte! I know you'll get in!

Wow, that's pretty impressive! I got my B.S. in Bio from KSU last year and my GPA is a 3.95, but I made an 87 on the TEAS. I wasn't too worried about not being accepted until I found out how many people applied last year...something like 700?! I'm thinking I might take the TEAS again just to increase my chances.

How was the interview? I've heard its a behavorial interview.

Your grades and TEAS are terrific! You will have no problem at all! I was really nervous for the interview, but the people that performed the interview really made me feel comfortable. It was all behavioral. Of course the first question was why nursing, then they asked questions like give an example of when you had to use teamwork to get something done and how did that work out. They also asked to give a situation where you did not believe in a policy but were asked to uphold it. They asked for an example where you had to multi task and how I handled it. Mainly just life stuff and how you handled certain situations. A BS in bio with your grades and TEAS you are a shoe in!

Hello everyone. For those that were asking, accelerated classes are no longer on the Rome/Jasper campuses. All classes will be at KSU. Also FYI - Traditional students are no longer allowed to take summer classes, only accelerated students.

If you are looking for interview questions, I found a list on this site back when I applied for the Fall 2011 group. I prepared an answer for every single question listed and there was only 1 question that they asked that wasn't on the list. However, since I'd prepared all of these answers, I already had answers that I could adapt to the question they asked that wasn't on the list. So, my point is go through this list and prepare answers. Also, do the mock interview. You'll do great!

•They ask about cheating, care, organization, integrity etc...

•The interview is centered around what they believe to be important qualities to a nurse: leadership, customer service oriented, compassion, ethics, problem-solving, etc...

1.Why have you chosen nursing, what lead to here?

2.What experience do you have in the medical field, if any?

3.Name an ethical situation you have been in and how you handled it.

4.Name a situation that influenced a change in your personal morals.

5.Describe a time when you showed compassion.

6.Tell me about a time when you had to make a difficult decision.

7.Tell me a situation where you showed integrity.

8.Tell me a situation where you had to be flexible.

9.Tell me a situation where you showed good decision making.

10.Tell us about a time you had a difficult patient/customer and how you resolved it.

11.What are your strengths and weaknesses?

12.How do you time manage?

13.Tell us about a time when you made a mistake.

14.Tell us about a time you showed leadership.

15.Why do you feel you would be a good nurse?

16.Nursing school is hard, how do you know you are prepared to be a nurse?

17.Tell me about yourself (Relate this to WHY you are here, interviewing for KSU nursing, etc)

18.Why have you chosen KSU?

19.Tell me a time when you were faced with a difficult situation and how you handled it.

20.Tell me about a time when a coworker was not pulling his/her weight on your team.

21.What would make us pick you over someone else for this opportunity?

22.What do you think makes a good nurse?

•Have a few questions prepared to ask them at the end!

I'm in the accelerated program. I love it. I really like to stay busy...and it certainly keeps you busy. If you're good with time management, I would HIGHLY recommend getting involved in your Student Nurses Association. Even as pre-nursing students, you are already eligible to get involved and be part of the organization, and its even better if you've already been accepted. Joining the National Student Nurses Association is only $35/year, has numerous benefits and includes membership at the state level as well (GANS - Georgia Association of Nursing Students). It is a great opportunity to develop your leadership skills and will look great on your resume. You will definitely need to do things to differentiate yourself when you are looking for a job after graduation. Everyone that is admitted to the program is smart, but you'll need more than that to land a job post-graduation. So, please...get involved!

Hello to anyone,

I'm am applying to the program, and scheduling my TEAS this week. Compared to what is known of accepted candidates, I just want to know what anyone, who can give a fair amount of incite on the process, thought of my chances.

Background:

I'm 29, black male, and I have a B.S. in 2005 and M.S. in 2011 both in Biology. My undergrad gpa was crappy, 2.81 and my graduate gpa was 3.3, but I also worked full-time throughout. I normally test well, and expect to do well on the TEAS. I'm switching career fields, because I realize that I love working with people and helping people, and I've always had a larger interest in the medical side of Biology, and frankly don't get much fulfillment from doing normal laboratory work, and I'm becoming unhappy with my current situation. I have plenty of good work experience, and I'm published.

Main Question:

With my average grades, do you think my other qualities will set me apart enough even for good consideration (i.e. interview)?

Hey bjc3,

not sure, because they are not supposed to look at other stuff besides the 5 areas (3 GPA's, TEAS, and interview). Your GPA is pretty low. I never heard of anyone getting in with a GPA lower than 3.0. I am not sure if they will calculate your grad school GPA either. There is no way they will know about your other qualities until the interview, which is the last thing they do, so if you don't make the cut with your GPA's and teas score then you will never have the opportunity to make in to an interview and tell them. However, with that being said, you are competing against the people you applied with. I got in for Jan, and it was my 4th time applying. My guess is that the stats were lower this go round ;-)

bcj3,

I would highly suggest contacting personnel affiliated with the program.

Good luck to you!
