Kennesaw State Fall 2011

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

I just applied to Kennesaw State's program for Fall 2011. I thought it would be fun to do a roll call to see who else is out there beginning the waiting game!

IF it's inorganic chem that is a pre-req they'll take it....they only take the 5 best of 7 science/math grades. How are your math grades and A&P grades? They took my micro over my O chem since I made an A in micro and a B in O chem. I hear ya on the UGA chem classes. They were a killer when I was there. My professor had actually written our book so we were basically screwed.

Also, on the TEAS, if anyone has under an 80 and doesn't get an interview...that is more than likely the reason. Just retake it and buy the book that ATI provides and go through with a fine tooth comb. A lot of it will be review and then focus on the areas you feel you are struggling with. TEAS V scores are about 10 points lower than TEAS IV so they may take that into consideration. I took both but I scored higher on the TEAS V and was in the 96th percentile. You definitely need A&P to take it.

If you don't get that interview, go to Fran. Get in front of her, email her, make sure she knows your name. That will help when she is pulling names to interview. She will be really honest with you and tell you if you have a chance and what you need to fix. You have to show them you want this!!!

Just remember the competition is really hard and unfortunately you are being ranked against everyone else. IF you do get the interview, go to career services and sign up for a mock interview...this will help soooo much! If you can nail that interview then a lower TEAS might not be looked at as much.

I feel for all of you...I was literally stressed out for 6 months...Good luck! Once you get that letter, start practicing the questions. Write them down. Have a couple of scenarios. I had scenarios and then the interview went in a completely different direction based on one answer I gave. I was kinda of thrown but keep in mind, they are looking for answers that show you know what it is going to take to be a good nurse and do you have the qualities needed of a nurse....

Be specific and be confident!!!

I don't understand why Kennesaw will still accept TEAS IV scores if they don't offer the test for everyone. It seems unfair that if those scores are around 10 points higher then TEAS V that anyone sending in those scores will have a huge advantage in that category because ten points is a huge difference. Other good nursing programs around will only allow you to submit TEAS V scores.

When I registered to take the TEAS, I was told that as of Fall 2011, TEAS V was the only version KSU would consider.

I had to take TEAS V for Summer 2011. It started with Summer. So don't worry about the 4th version

Oh, ok! Thanks!

ugabelle,

A&P 1 and 2 I got a B and a B+ (my prof. was a Yale grad and told us point blank on the first day of class that she would teach A&P as rigorously as it was taught to her at Yale, and that a B- in her class was as good as an A anywhere else, so I was pumped about those grades lol I hated it at the time but I learned SO much) my stat and algebra grades are both A's, Microbio was an A-, Chem was a B- for the part 1 and B for part 2 (did you have Atwood at UGA? ha ha he is STILL writing the books and telling freshmen that they HAVE to buy the new edition every year, even though its the same book with a diff. cover slapped on it!) Ochem was a c+, but biochem was an A and the other elementary chem credit I have was a B so I'm not sure which one they'll look at (hoping to God its the biochem grade!) English grades were both A's and psych was an A. I'm currently taking sociology and developmental psych but those should be A's as well. TEAS was a 93.3 but cumulative GPA is only a 3.44, so I'm really hoping that I can get an interview at least! I'm going to be so upset if that ochem grade messes me up!

and how on Earth did you make it through 6 months of waiting!?!?! That just seems cruel that they would make you wait that long! it hasn't even been 3 weeks since our app was due and its driving me crazy!

Did anyone apply anywhere else or just KSU. I hope I get picked for interview I am much better in person had lots of jobs in my teen years so I can nail an interview. KSU was the only school to not count my bad grades from like the 1990's. When I didn't know what school was for. So that brought down my transfer GPA to a 3.08. But prereq are 3.3 with no C's in science but a 2 in into to psych. and Math 1101. Teas got a 77. Nerves. I wish they went by a point system. Some school I have looked at in San Diego go by a point system. Which seems a lot more fair than relying on someone else's option. Just my thoughts.. Good luck to everyone.:yeah:

Just got an email from fran about our applications being processed/career fair, I'm sure you all got it too... I literally counted how many applicants it was cc'd to....812!!!??? (Yes, I'm pathetic, I know...) I thought about 500-600 people usually applied!

WOW:eek: good thing I applied to other schools. Just may have to go the ASN route and crossover for the RN to BSN. That is crazy. But lets hope not everyone had a competitive GPA, TEAS, M&S. Some just may have applied to see what happens.

Yeah I applied to Armstrong Atlantic in savannah as well as to west ga.... I'm getting a feeling I might be in savannah next fall unless I get a miracle! Gonna start working on building that good karma!!! Ha ha!

bmd513 I got the email you are talking about. I counted as well and got 725. I hope it wasn't 2 separate emails!! I replied to Fran to ask if the letter was the decision letter or the interview letter and she said interview. I really hate this waiting! In all of the past threads about Fall Semesters at KSU, everyone had their interview letters by the first week of March, interviewed at the end of March, and knew if they had been accepted by the middle of April. I have spent so much time on these boards trying to figure out the system. I probably should just sit back and wait and try not to worry about it. It's just hard!

I also applied to West GA. I'm thinking there is a possibility we might know if we got in there or not before we know if we even have an interview at KSU.

I got that email and started counting all the email addresses too! I can't believe how many were on there. I have really been stressing lately about my overall GPA. I had a rough start to my college career, but I turned things around and got a masters degree in clinical psychology. Too bad they don't look at any graduate work. I still have a weak overall undergrad gpa, but most schools would think that I "fixed" things by bringing my gpa up enough to get into grad school and successfully complete a degree.

I looked back over all my undergrad course work (about 140 hours total) and I think my gpa from all my schools is only around a 3.1, maybe 3.2 depending on how they count it. If I try to bring that up, I would have to take years of undergrad work even though I have been acing my science classes. Any advice on where to go with this? If I don't get an interview this time around I may make an appointment with Fran. I hope the awful years I had from 2000-2002 doesn't keep me from getting into a nursing program! At least I will have an answer either way by April.
