Frustrated-New Grad relocated to Atlanta

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

I relocated to Atlanta after graduation in December. I now have my license- yippee!! However, I am not having any luck with new graduate positions. I applied for the residencies and internships only to be told they are taking scholarship winners or students they had during school. I am encouraged to apply where I am known. I only have an associates degree and was told if I had a bachelors then maybe we could talk.

Hello- I just moved here and went to school in a different state. No one knows me. I did not look for a CNA position while waiting for my application to process, because I didn't realize how long it was going to take (silly paper state).

I am not one to complain (I don't think :saint:) but I am really getting frustrated. I realize it is difficult for many right now, but I am admittingly having a pitty party.

at the end of my rope and need to climb back up...:D

please motivate with your words- thanks!

i am thinking of relocating there, have you had any luck, with finding something i know it's been a while since you posted this just curious if you found something, so i will know if i need to get more experience before relocating.

Well interviews are slowly coming. I would highly encourage getting experience before relocating. Use your local network because building a new one takes a lot of time. I did not have the luxury of making that choice. The area is saturated with new grads and most schools are connected to hospitals with scholarship and extern programs. Best of Luck!

thanks so much for the info, do they recognize people with experience?

Yes, they recognize experience. As a matter of fact that is why the new grad internships are so few and if they do have internships its only one or two spots. There is an abundance of nurses with experience looking for positions at the same time. Which takes away from needing to open internships. Internships are expensive and most places don't have the budget currently.

Frustrated,

I am in the exact situation. I moved to Atlanta from Mississippi in December. I also graduated in Dec. 08. I am a new grad with a BSN. I have applied to all of the residencies in the area with no luck yet. I wouldn't recommend any new grads move to Atlanta area looking for a nursing job. I spoke with several of the nurse recruiters in the area and they tell me they have a handful of residencies and hundreds of nurse grad applications, along with the school/hospital affiliation that you mentioned....it doesn't look good for us.

I have a BSN and yet I have resorted to applying for clerical jobs. I tried to get a cna job and was told I need a cna license....BUT I'M AN RN!!! Anyway, I have started searching outside the city in areas like Cumming and Newnan.

I am sorry to hear you are facing such difficulty. Unfortunately, you can't work as a tech if you have your RN license. What areas are you interested in pursuing. Alot of the residencies have now closed for May graduates. There are a few that will be posting this month.

Since I passed my boards I have truly hit the pavement and it has payed off.

I work with the Tanner Health System. Maybe you should check them out. We have tons of new grads all the time. Good luck!

Frustrated,

Remember I told you that I'm a new grad with a BSN, just relocated to Atlanta and having trouble finding work too? Well, I had an interview with Grady Hospital yesterday on Monday May 11. Human resources just called me a few minutes ago and offered me the job. I'm so excited. So, don't give up. Keep putting those applications and resumes out there. I think I have applied for EVERY hospital in the Atlanta area.

Congrats!!! Awesome news!!!

I did get accepted a week or so ago to an ICU internship. That's what I was referring to as "pay off" in my earlier post.

I am so glad to hear your good news, I have been waiting to hear how it was going! :)

Awesome!!!

that's great i am happy for you.

I am so happy for you, I feel as if I found the job myself. Just happy to see that somebody is getting some were.
