Emory is it really worth the money?

Is it worth money? I have heard some mixed reviews.

Ask me, a current BSN Emory student. Message me any question you have.

I understand that everything is based on individual financial circumstances...but does Emory give plenty of opportunities to afford going to their nursing program? I received my acceptance over the weekend. I am just a bit worried about how/if I can afford it. I haven't received my financial aid award yet either. I noticed there used to be a program called NEAT...what happened to that? Thanks!

I have questions, too! I was also accepted over the weekend and am curious about how you think the value of Emory compares to other schools. I have gotten into both VCU and Emory - two completely different schools, but am curious about what made you choose Emory. What do you think Emory can give you that other schools couldn't?

No more NEAT...

Research opportunity? Nice location? Atlanta vs Richmond?

Unless you are planning to go into research, I don't think it is. While they like to say there are opportunities available that are unique to Emory, I have learned that is not the case during the process of researching schools, aside from the VA program they have. But is that really worth taking out close to 100k in loans? I would advise anyone considering Emory to do the same research.

Emory was my dream school for a long time, until i started digging a little deeper. Do not just listen to what the school tells you - do your own research as well. Try to speak to students who are not student ambassadors or on full scholarship. You will find the answers to simple questions will vary greatly. You can get the same education with the same opportunities at some of the state schools for a fraction of the cost.

Also, if you are an independent student, the maximum amount of need based grants & scholarships you can receive is capped at 6k per year. This is not something they advertise during the application process, so I wanted to give potential applicants a heads up.

@meep Oh yes! Absolutely correct. I wanted Emory too so badly but when I began to volunteer at their hospital (EUHM) I spoke to two Emory BSN graduates on my unit; one was on scholarship, and the other was not. Although, they both had mixed feelings for the school, they said they do not think it made any sense or difference taking out that amount of loans if you have a cheaper option. I think it helped them though because they got a job right after they received their RN certification and on the UNIT they wanted.

I was later accepted to Emory but declined and accepted GSU instead with 4.0 GPA (62 credit hours including all science classes), 82 TEASV (only 1 attempt), more than 75 Volunteer hours (with Emory), and a CNA with CPR certification.

I've been paying through college out of pocket and was not ready to spend that much for a BSN degree when I could own more properties with that. I will be going to Emory for my MSN no doubt.

Most BSN grads I know have gotten jobs in the units they wanted, regardless of school attended. I do not think it is something unique to Emory.

I recently graduated from Emory nursing and am now working as a nurse. There are many things I wish I knew before choosing to attend but I can't really be specific because school is very aggressive towards students who post negative things about the school online. Anyone is welcome to reach out to me via PM if you would like my honest perspective before making a decision.

Hi, I tried to pm you, but I could not. If it is not too late, could you pm me and share your experiences as alumni? if your pm is not working, could you send it to my email? [email protected]

Thank you!

Pre-nursing students,

I highly recommend you rethink before doing Emory DABSN. I am graduating, and I would never recommend this program to anyone. This program is the most unorganized and unprofessional program there is for 80k. #2 nursing program in the country? Please. Do not attend this program if you are looking to be supported during nursing school. The director, faculty, and staff are the most unhelpful and disorganized people. I regret being a part of this program and wish I had someone to tell me to not waste my time. Sure you get done in 11 months but if you don't want to go through hell and back I would not recommend this. They preach on "advocating for yourself" but get mad and retaliate against you when you do. They say they will offer support, but never do. You will not be in any other clinicals than Med Surg. So you have to fight to get a job in other areas because hospitals will be hesitant to hire you if you have no experience. The whole program is full of constant stress and false promises. Beware
