ARE YOU KIDDING ME PIEDMONT NEWMAN HOSPITAL? CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT THIS HOSPITAL WANTED TO CHARGE ME $15,000 DOLLARS FOR A 320 HOUR PRECEPTORSHIP?! I KID YOU NOT!!!!!!!!!!! NEEDLESS TO SAY, I TOLD THEM TO FORGET THAT!!!!!!!!!! I JUST WANTED TO PUT THIS OUT, SO YOU ALL COULD BE AWARE!!!!!!!:mad::mad::mad:

If I'm not mistaken, I think that some people were able to use a hospital in Macon. 15,000 is ridiculous; afterall, you're pretty much providing them with free labor. SMH; if you ask me they are just milking the situation.

I suspect this is the 'value' of your orientation. Other hospitals require a contract for X amount of time after orientation, and if you leave for any reason before your contract expires you have to repay them this value, as they they are losing their cost of training you.

This fee was for a preceptorship for New Grads. This was not the cost for a refresher course. I wanted the correct information posted here as I am the original poster, and this is the fee they quoted me for a 320 hour preceptor-ship. Definitely not worth it in my opinion!!! But, to each his/her own..

This is why I said in another thread that the six month preceptorship Massachusetts General in Boston was offering that paid $11.44 an hour was actually a good deal if looked at as part of one's education. Some took great offense at RN's being paid about half the going rate for a new grad, but I kept telling them that the newbies were being given additional classroom time and provided with an excellent, in-depth orientation to ICU that would make them highly marketable for the rest of their careers. I also pointed out that business grads were, in some cases, being asked to pay to take part in internships. Sounds like this idea is trying to worm its way into nursing.

For $15,000 you could get a good start on earning your master's degree, for pete's sake. This does not sound like a good deal at all.

I really do not know of any LPN refresher courses. I know Kennestone, MCCG and Dekalb Medical have RN refresher courses. Some of them are through affiliated nursing schools in their area. I do know that some hospitals outside of the atlanta area hire LPNS and are willing to orient you into a position in lieu of a refresher course.

4pancakes try the Versant Program at North Fulton Regional Hospital in Roswell. There is also a fee involved but it was waived with 2 years of committed service 10 thousand per year, you are paid and between class time and 1:1 RN preceptorship and this is a Tenet facility.
