This is my first of four semesters in an ADN/RN program. We have been to the nursing home for three weeks, and had our first clinical day at the hospital last week. I am feeling so completely overwhelmed, incompetent, and unsure of myself right now! I am working on my care plan which is due Monday (the first one I've ever done) and am not sure what I'm even doing.
I just want to know, when will I start feeling more comfortable with all of this? Did you guys feel like this when you first started? There is SOOOOO much to learn and SOOOOOOO little time...........

I felt out of place and overwhelmed my entire first semester and about half of the second semester. Now I am more comfortable with most things, though I still get nervous when I am doing something completely new.

Yes, each new semester brings new challenges. I am now a bit more comfortable but still unsure of myself on some things, I think that is normal. The fear is what keeps me on my toes so I can be sure I do my best to meet all goals. :):):):) Its crazy when you throw in paperwork too! :):) Care plans can be confusing definately!!!! Good luck!!!!

You are feeling just like you should right now. It took me awhile to feel comfortable. If you have a chance, you should try to get a CNA/PCT job (part-time) at a hospital. It will give you time to get more comfortable around the patients, as well as practicing assessments, picking nurses brains, etc.

i started to feel a bit better by the end of the first semester, and was even more confident the second, and now, in the third, i am 95-100% confident in what i can do, and no longer get freaked about it at all. maybe occasionally i worry, but i get excited to go to clinicals. except for care plans. im better at them now, but still dont like them

Oh Yessss! Of course we did, at least most of us did. I don't know anyone that did not feel that same way, especially at the begining. Before you know it, you'll laugh about how the things you're doing right now stressed you out. I remember being so nervous about taking vitals! About giving injections! Heck - About giving a bath! LOL! I graduate in 174 days with my BSN and I have learned so much! You will get through this! ((Hugs))
Thanks for the encouragement everyone. I am currently working on the care plan. Hey Jen, where are you in MI? I am in Traverse City!
