What would you do?

Here's my situation:

Im applying for the upper division BSN program at Texas Womens for the Spring 2005 semester. The only class I am lacking is developmental psychology, which Im taking as a summer course starting Monday (yes, Memorial day...whats up with that??) Im also retaking two courses that I made C's in to boost my GPA this summer.

As of right now, my schedule is:

Summer I-- US Hist. I & Dev. Psyc.

Summer II--Political Science

Assuming I make A's in these classes (which Im fairly certain that I will), my GPA when I apply will be a 3.83. However, I now have the opportunity to go to Europe for a week and a half at the beginning of July which would mean that I cant take a class during the second summer semester. If I dont retake Poli Sci, my GPA for my application will be 3.71.

Im tempted to take the trip because I know Ill never have an opportunity like this again (My best friends are backpacking through Europe this summer--they left this morning for Italy! I would be meeting them in Paris and leaving from London)

do you think it would be a better idea to just stay here and take Poli Sci? I cant afford to not get in for the spring semester, and Im afraid that taking this trip would be risking a lot.

TWU only takes 100 students/semester and Im not sure what the typical cut-off GPA is but Im assuming its rather high.

What do you think I should do?

This would be a hard decision to make. What a fantastic trip you have the chance to go on! Since you are asking what other people think you should do I will tell you what I would do. I would stay and take the class.

The trip to Europe would be great. However, Europe is not going anywhere. You can take a trip to Europe as your graduation present to yourself in a few years. You can even bring your friends along for the celebration. Because you do not know what the GPA cutoff is and you realize the difference retaking the class will make, I would stay at school and take the class.

If you go to Europe and do not get in you will be left with the "what if" questions that can drive a person crazy. I personally never want to wonder about the "what ifs". I say try your best this summer, get those A's, and start dreaming of the fabulous trip you are going to take a few years from now when you accomplish your goal of becoming a nurse.

Good luck with your decision.

I've been accepted to TWU-Dallas for the fall semester. The minimum GPA for admission was a 3.7, I've heard it was higher for Houston. Unfortunately, you just can't predict that cutoff point ahead of time, it could go lower or higher depending on the pool of applicants.

I know it is disappointing to miss out on what looks like the trip of a lifetime, we had to cancel our "big vacation before mom starts nursing school" for financial reasons. I just keep reminding myself of the trips we will be able to take once I'm finished. I think if you take the trip and that lower GPA keeps you out of school, you might regret it.

Good luck, whatever you choose!

go go go!

because once the nursing classes begin that is all you will know. this way you will have time to clear your head and be fresh as a daisy for the fall!

WOW, what a tough decision! My only concern would be what if you stayed and took the course, and yet you still didn't get accepted to nursing school?? So what do you do then? No Europe,AND no nursing school? But if I were you I would take a chance on staying and raising my GPA. 3.83 will make you a very strong canidate!

I was accepted to TWU 3 yrs ago with a 3.3 GPA, but chose Baylor instead. I would choose the trip to Europe for sure! Also, consider applying for several schools such as TWU, Baylor, UTA to increase your chances of acceptance, unless your heart is set on TWU. Good luck!

Go to Europe!!! 3.7 is a very strong GPA and you already have a full schedule of summer courses. Your sanity and health are very important and you might not get this chance again. In a few years your friends might be starting careers of thier own and won't be able to swing the trip.

Good luck with your decision. Let us know what you decide!! :) :)
