Howdy!

I am graduating in May 2006 with my BSN and am looking around the country at large hospitals for critical care training programs that you know of, or have experience with. I am looking for find out what are some of the more formal programs at the larger hospitals (trauma centers, acedemic university sites, top hospitals) that you may know of. So far I have researched Parkland in Dallas, 6-8 month program at Massuchucettes General Hospital, Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. I am really looking for other programs that offer a great orientation program for new grads in the ICU. Any suggestions or comments about what program you are in would be extremely helpful as I am just looking for the best ICU training that might be available after graduation. Thanks!

What I am seeing in the Phoenix area is that it is not really common for a new grad to get a job in the ICU. I do know of one hospital that is hiring new grads for the cardiac ICU. I am doing my senior preceptorship now in the ICU and loving it! Perhaps it could lead to a job, but if not, I will work in transplant where I am now externing. Both positions are challenging.

Let us know what you find out. I am interested.

Cheers,

HI,

I live in NJ but after graduation I plan on moving to Deleware to join the Christiana Care Health System. From the sounds and looks of it, their new grad orientaion into the ICU is one of the best there is plus the hospital itself is ranked one of the best. I believe it is at least 6mos long and very extensive, which is what I'm looking for in a program. Google search for Christiana Care Health Sysytem, Deleware and look more into it, they have all the info you need on their website about their ICU program for new grads. Good Luck.
