What can RT's do that RN's can't?

It seems nurses can do everything an RT does plus their own duties... is that true?

Vanilla bean.. you also commented on a thread that's 3 years old.... but anyway we just deserve respect from RNs such as yourself. Yes you guys do a lot but you can't do it all

Also vanilla bean the only reason I even made an account to comment is because of the utter disrespect that I read on here.. if you all nurses think you can do it all then by all means go ahead but don't call the RT when you run into trouble.

The reason this three year old thread got a reply from other people is because you "bumped" it. I think a lot of the original commenters who were being disrespectful don't even frequent this site anymore, and if they did I doubt they'll be aware that you came and made your opinion known, given how long ago the original discussion took place.

I agree with you that RT's are necessary and I certainly don't want to be on the hook for learning/keeping up on the knowledge that RT's do. However, I think the way you tried to get your message across was really rude and off-putting.

Well I'm sorry if it was rude and off-putting that was not my intention. I just wanted to get the point across that we are constantly disrespected and looked down upon. We go to school just as long as RNs and are capable of having the same degree if we wanted. I usually don't voice my opinion online but the other day at work I was treated like complete garbage by multiple nurses and I felt the need to express myself.

After 3.5 decades as critical care nurse, for the fun of it I completed a respirator therapy program, and also obtained my RRT.....I learned a lot.....now I do both.....
