Nursing Students General Students

Published

I have had my first exam of the second semester and already I am scared. I have no idea how I did. I don't feel too confident at all.I also feel very intimidated by the medication part of nursing. Giving the injection scared me alot.I was so afraid of hurting my fellow student that my hand shook. Now I wonder if I will be able to get over it . I wish class was all over but it's not. How many of you have to do your own evals? We have to do our own and then, the instructor gives us her take on it. I think it is garbage myself. I don't want to evaluate myself. Just one more thing for an already overcome nursing student to deal with. How much more am I supposed to take? Sorry to carry on but I knew at least some of you would understand a bit of this. We are doing the endocrine system in A&P and doing the endocrine system in nursing class as well.Get this bit, now that we are no longer being coddled (I would love to know when that was happening because I have yet to feel that way.) we have to get our own homework assignments from the main office because they are too lazy to put them in our folders. I just had to sit through 5 hours on the endocrine system and I get 5 more next Tuesday, ug..well you guessed it I am off to study:rolleyes:

I know how overwhelming it all is, but you will eventually gain confidence in your skills. We didn't get to practice on each other, so our first injections were on real live patients! Talk about hand shaking! Every time you do it though, it gets easier.

Our program has lots of hoops too, lots of little annoyances. It hasn't gotten any better, but I have learned to just go with the flow, and not sweat the small stuff.

We also have to do self evals. I hate doing them too, but at least it is subjective and there is no wrong or right answer.

Hang in there! Everything will start falling into place at some point.

Specializes in Med-Surg.

I think most places have you do the evaluations. They told us that it is to prepare us for the workplace, because we will have to do it there too. Of course it's also to see if we can be sort of objective about where we are.

It really does get somewhat better as you go along. Not easy, but you start to understand more of the reasons for having to do some of the stuff that seems kind of dumb.

20/20 hindsight...I can probably use every bit of what I learned from the busy work last semester.

Going through it...the teachers were lucky I didn't drive to their houses and start chucking video tapes at them at 3 in the morning!

Hahhah self evaluations - LOVE THEM!!! They are such a waste of time that I intentianally take the mickey and tell them have awesome i am at everything - HAHAHAHAHAH Well at my uni the clinical educators can't mark you higher than you mark yourself, so why put yourself down and tell people how much you think you suck when you really don't!!!

I am sure that you did really well in your assessments and try to forget about them because they are over now!!!

Sure you were great and have fun with the endocrine system!!
