Venting -- Having to Videotape Ourselves Performing Skills

OK I seriously like my lab/skills instructor I promise.....but...here it comes......

What the &^%$ is the point of us videotaping a ton of skills for her?

The other instructors do not require this of their students. This week I have spent bloody hours trying to figure out how to work the equipment we must use (yep no manuals and the college geek squad had no clue either). Also, you must be taped by a fellow student and vice versa. No stopping allowed and the skill must be PERFECT. So not only do you muck about with equipment and such, you must sit about until both your partner and you get the skill on tape perfectly.

I would rather get checked off by one of the lab nurses -- even the one that is a cow -- than waste hours and hours on this. I still have other skills to practice for live check offs and I have other classes. The time this requires is disproportionate to the "actual learning" going on.

Of course now that me and my partner know how to use the equipment I bet she is going to want us to show the other students so they don't bumble about for hours. Resulting in more of a waste of my time -- because to not show them will of course make me not a team player.

Darn it! I am unimpressed. Even the other teachers in the lab are unimpressed and felt sorry for us.

Thank you for listening I feel much better now.

For what it is worth I agree with you.
