Typical week in nursing school?

If there IS such a thing, what is your typical week like in nursing school? When do you get up, study, go to bed, etc? Do you ever get to see your family (LoL)?

I'm working on prerequisites now. As a CNA, I know what long hard hours are, but I'm told that nursing school is it's own special hell... I'm determined to do it, and do it well, but I'd love to have an idea of what I'm getting myself into!

I'm in an evening/weekend ASN program at a community college, so my schedule may be different from others... but 4 days a week I get my kids ready for school, go to work for about 5-6 hours, get my kids home from school and 2-3 days a week the babysitter comes because I have to go to class/clinical before my husband gets home from work. I don't work on Fridays so I still bring my kids to school but then I can get school work done while they are there. Other than Fridays, I rarely do homework or study until my kids are in bed because we don't get enough time together as it is.

Our clinical schedule rotates so it isn't always 3 nights a week. The two nights a week that I have lecture it is from 5-9 pm. If its clinical on a weeknight than it is 3-11 pm. Then every other Saturday I have clinical from about 7 am - 4 pm. Depending on the rotation I may have clinical on Sundays as well. It is doable but hard to manage my time. I need more time for studying but I also don't want to take more time from my kids. So far I am making it work! Most of the people in my program are also parents so it helps to have others around who know how it is.

At present I am a full time nursing student. I am in an execrated program, ADN. I carry 12 credit hours & will continue until I graduate.

At work I'm a Surgical Technologist. I work as much as possible. I have the luxury of having a great boss who can usually help with my schedule.

Some weeks I work 4-20 hours a week. My Outpatient surgical facility is only open M-F, no weekends or holidays.

I get up most mornings at 4:30 am no matter where I'm going school/work/clinicals.

This Quarter's schedule:

Monday: *Exam Days, No work. Up at 6:30, School 8:00. Meet with Study Group at 10:00 until 1:00*

Up 4:30

Work: 6:30-10:30

10:30-1:30 study/lunch/exercise/travel time

Nurse Theory Class: 1:30-5

Home 5:30-11:00 Study/Dinner/chores

11:30 sleep

Tuesday:

Up 4:30

Nurse Lab/Nurse Theory Class 8:00- 5:00

Home: 5:30-11:00 Study/Dinner/chores

11:30 sleep

Wednesday:

Up: 4:30

Work: 6:30-? (3:30-5:30)

Home: whatever time Study/Dinner/Chores

11:30 sleep

Thursday:

Up:4:30

Clinical: 6:30- 3:30

Home 4:30-11:00 Study/Dinner/Chores

11:30 sleep

Friday:

Up: 4:30

Clinical 6:30-4

Home: 4:30-11:00 Study/Dinner/Chores

May/June Friday's

Up:430

Work 6:30-? (3:30-5:30)

Home: whenever... Study/dinner/chores

Saturday:

Up: 7:00-9:00

Exercise 9:00-10:00

10:00 Shower

10:30a-11:00 Study/Assignments/Chores/dinner...

Sunday:

Up: 7:00-9:00

Exercise 9:00-10:00

10:00 Shower

10:30a -11:00 Study/Assignments/Chores/dinner...

That's my life for the next 12 weeks....

I am just finishing up my first semester in an ADN program.

This has been my schedule for pretty much the whole semester:

Monday

8am-10am lecture

12pm-2pm seminar

I usually study between lecture and seminar or work on whatever assignments are going to be due throughout the week.

After class is over I go home and take a nap then study for about 5-6 hours with breaks.

Tuesday

7am-11am clinical

12pm-4pm skills lab

After class is over I do the same as I did Monday, I might even study less depending on how I did the night before.

Wednesday

12pm-2pm lab

Same thing as the previous :)

I work part time as a tech in the ED and usually work Thursday-Saturday so I don't study at all on those days but then I usually have time to study on Sundays.
