Topics for Leadership & Mgmt Presentations

Nursing Students General Students

Published

I need help with topics for a L&M presentation that should be based off professional practice issues and situations in nursing like: effective communication, making decisions related to delegation of patient care and responsibilities, improving quality of health care, understanding legal parameters of nursing practice and dealing with ethical issues confronting nurses today. I'm having a hard time zeroing in something that won't put other students to sleep! I was thinking something like moral distress in dealing with end of life issues or the code of ethics and how it's really applied. Please help me come with something interesting to hold students attention!

If you want something interesting that will most likely create some buzz (and controversy), you may want to focus on the challenges of leading a multi-generational workforce. EVERY time I have presented or been involved in these discussions, everyone wants to chime in.. either protesting the stereotypes or contributing their own personal experience in dealing with "those Boomers/ GenXers/ Millennials,". If you want to narrow it down, you could limit the discussion to 'impact'.... e.g., impact of multi-generational staff on - shared governance, adapting to change, technology implementation, etc. There's a ton of information available related to this topic.

Another spicy topic is leading culturally diverse groups.... for pretty much the same reasons.

My own personal approach to presentations/lectures is to adopt the role of facilitator. The end result should be a conversation, not a showcase for the 'sage on the stage'. Don't be afraid to go there.
