Starting work . . .

Here I am, sitting at home since I found out that I passed the boards, just waiting to start work. When I was hired, the VP of nursing told me to call her when I passed the boards. I did. She said, "congrats" and that she'd have her secretary call me with the next step. I swear, that secretary isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer, if you know what I mean. She told me that I'd have to wait until the next computer class that the hospital offered, which was on 6/25. I said okay, assuming that I'd be hearing from her again as to times, clocking in, etc. Nothing. So, I paid a visit to my old girl friends in the Medical Records Dept. on Wednesday. They convinced me to run to the VP of Nursing's office and light a fire under the secretary's a**. So, being the polite person that I am, I waited patiently while the secretary was on the phone. She looked up at me, covered the mouthpiece, and said, "can I help you?" I told her who I was and then the lightbulb must have go on, and she said, "oh yea, Karen" and then proceeded to ask me if I had passed my boards. I thought, "what an idiot", but remained calm. I reminded her that I did pass and she then said, "now when would you like to start work?" I thought to myself, "geez, am I going to have to deal with this chick often?" Anyway, she told me to be there on Monday morning around 9:00 to take the computer class but that she'd be calling me on Friday with more info. Did she call? No, of course not. And I even saw her flip to Friday's date on her calendar thing and write my name and number so she would call me. Maybe she doesn't flip the date on a daily basis, who knows. All I know is, I'm showing up about 8:45 on Monday and she had better be prepared to get me in that class. Heck, nurses are sure in demand in my area and if her incompetence makes me wait another week or so before I have to start work, I'm heading out the door and finding another nursing job!

Just had to vent.

Makes ya want to pop her a good one doesn't it? Pretend your pillow is her head and go to town.....good luck wiht your class

Hey Kittykash:

That is not a fun way for the hosp. to keep a new graduate... If the DON only knew what she was doing... maybe the staff is waiting for you and she is not telling them she is forgetting to call you. I would be there bright and early that day for the computer class.... and make your schedules to work with someone else if you can.

That is ashame but don't let her rain on your parade!!! Congrat's again I am so :D Happy for you....

At least your DoN appears like she cares. When I left my civilian job to come into the military, I went to her office to voice concerns over the way nurses at our hospital were being treated. When I told her the mandatory OT was out of hand, some people were having to do it 2-3 times a week, she looked at me and said we should get over it.

I hate her.
