...when does the consistent feeling of total ignorance and inadequacy go away?
Every week we learn so much, and every week we are given a stern reminder of how much we do not know from the tip of the almighty red pen.

It does get better as you progress through school. Unfortunately, it tends to get worse again once you become licensed and start that first job. In order to not go nuts (in school or on the job), you have to remember that nursing is generally a career-long learning process and that no one ever knows everything.

Being the Pollyanna that I am, when I get that way (a lot), I stop and think to myself all the things I *do* know how to do. And every thing that I had never seen and saw that day I can add to my list of things I know and have experienced. It's such an odd feeling to feel like you know SO much and SO little at the same time, but such is the plight of nursing... there's always something new to learn.
