I am a 4th semester nursing student who will be earning an associates degree this May. I would like to go on to get my bachelors (and had planned to do so.) But, I am not so sure it's the best idea now.
I certainly know that most places require (or look kindly towards) having a bachelors.
However, I have been reading some depressing posts on here about people who have not found a job in a year or even more. I cannot afford to go onto a bachelors program if I will still not being able to find a job. But, I am torn! I know the bachelors can open doors for other jobs. Yet, it seems like even those with bachelor degrees cannot find jobs. If I had the money to go on to more school, it wouldn't be a problem. But, I already have a bachelors degree from a previous institution. My financial aid in going to run dry soon - if it hasn't already.
I only work part-time - have since graduating from my previous college in 2007. I've been busy taking pre-reqs and nursing courses since then. I have no healthcare experience, so I think it will be even harder for me to find a job. I have been looking for PCT jobs and haven't had luck in that.
What advice do you have? Go for the bachelors (if I can even afford to do so.) Or, try and find some sort of f/t job first (preferably healthcare of course)- so I can gain more experience and earn more money?

I planned on going for my BSN right away, but the lights of the big hospital caught my attention. After working for 2 years I have NO desire to go back to school and I am a great student who loves school and does well. I say if you can manage it - keep going and get the BSN...there are so many distractions once you start working full-time. Good Luck in whatever you decide.

If you can find a job take it. You can do the BSN program part time - but I would recommend working a while to learn nursing. Your employer might even help with tuition!
