RN/Doctor Shadowing in Dallas

Hello All,

Over the past few months I have been searching for health professionals to shadow and have had no luck! I don't have any personal contacts to shadow, so I was wondering if anyone on here knows any contacts I could shadow in the Dallas area? Or, even just a few tips on how I could obtain shadowing opportunities in my area. I have already tried calling/emailing/visiting several hospitals in Dallas which all seem to have the same answer.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!!

"Shadow" for what reason? In what capacity?

I would be shadowing to get a general idea of a field I may want to go into. So I am open to shadowing anywhere for any amount of time.

I don't know of any hospitals or clinicians who will allow people access to healthcare settings just because they are generally interested in healthcare occupations. There are v. strict laws about confidentiality that make it difficult to just bring people in from "off the street" to observe, unless they have some legitimate reason to be there. Most hospitals have volunteer programs that would enable you (as a volunteer) to have some exposure to different areas of the hospital and observe a variety of professionals "in action." Some hospitals offer introductory/educational programs for people who think they might be interested in a healthcare occupation, to learn about the different kinds of professionals employed in hospitals, their roles and typical activities, educational requirements, etc. You might look for either of those opportunities somewhere near you. Best wishes!

Okay thanks! I guess I forgot to leave out that I will be applying to nursing school next fall and I am trying to get more exposure to strengthen my application. I will be volunteering at Childrens Medical Center over the summer so hopefully I can ask around after I have meet some of the nurses/physicians at the hospital. Thanks so much for your help!!
