RN-BSN...Drexel or Millersville?

I'm on track to graduate from ADN program (HACC) in December. It's been a long time coming - but since the beginning, taking all those pre-reqs til now, my goal has been the same: become a psych nurse. My background is with Alzheimer's patients and currently I work in mental health while in the RN program.

I've been looking into a few different RN-BSN programs.... in particular, both online programs at Millersville University and Drexel. Here's my concern.

If I decide to pursue the PMHNP path, which Drexel offers, will it matter where I get my BSN? I know it is highly competitive and will need >3.0 GPA to get into any NP program, especially in psych.

However, Drexel is a more expensive program. Millersville is cheaper and close by. But I'm more concerned about what would be the best move in regards to anticipating going for my PMHNP in the future.

So, with that in mind...does where I go for my RN-BSN matter? Should I look at the more recognised schools to better my chances of getting in? In school right now, we're basically told it doesn't matter where you get your BSN, as long as it's accredited.

It doesn't matter where you get your BSN.

Graduate nursing school remains wide open. You will probably get accepted into every NP program you apply to. Best of Luck!

Drexel is VERY good. I know an NP (acute adult-geri) who went there, and she can't say enough good about it.

For a BSN degree, you want the same kind of quality education. It would make the transition of going from your bsn to np easier to know the curriculum style, to be with the same school imo. Drexel is expensive but offers many scholarships. You can ask to "observe" their online NP program also.

As with any BSN program you may choose, accreditation is critical. . In addition to ensuring a program is accredited, you want to be sure the program has a strong reputation and the program works for you. Some additional factors you may wish to consider along with your long term goals include: the total amount of financial aid you might have available to you and/or the amount of educational reimbursement that a healthcare provider may provide to employees. I do know that Millersville offers an excellent program and does have a lot of HACC graduates attending their program.
