really want to be an OB nurse...

I'm wondering if there are certain steps or classes that I need to take to make this happen. I'm currently still taking my pre-reqs for the nursing program, but when I do get into the program are there certain classes that I need to take to be an OB nurse or do all students take the same classes regardless of what kind of nurse they would like to be? I don't want to be in the situation where I apply for an OB position and then have them tell me that I can't have the job because I didn't take a particular class. Who knows, by the time I do graduate I may very well decide that OB isn't where I want to be, I might realize that I am better cut out for another area...but right now OB is my passion. I plan on asking my nursing advisor these questions when classes start again in the fall, but I was wondering if maybe I could get some information ahead of time from someone here :) thank you :)

To answer your question, yes all nursing students are required to do an OB rotation. Mine included Land D , antepartum, postpartum, NICU and well baby nursery. I too love ob ! You should consider getting certification to work as a tech on a Maternal unit. That will help you gain experience and may lead to a job post graduation. Good luck !
